as its abit choppy with some games, this is what i have ATM

Motherboard--Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI Socket 1150 LGA
Processor----Intel Core i5-4690 3.50GHz (Sandybridge)
Ram----------Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
GPU----------Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC Graphics Card (4GB,)

the case i like and dont want to change. the Moniter is fine also not sure if it would need changing? deffo need a better SSD as the onne i have is only 250 and not enough
space to install anything :D nothing on my computer is overclocked and nothing will be i just dont like it :D

its been a very good computer up till now but i have seen a change in its proformance with newer games

i have about £1500 but could possibly strech to £2000

thank you

First advice you'll get on here from most of us is , overclock your current CPU .
Next would be to buy second hand i7k for your board and again overclock . Buy a good cooler if you haven't got one .
Slap in another 8gn ram
Then upgrade GPU - this gives most FPS increase .

Also what's your monitor ?

no.
your board takes 4 sticks of ram. so just get another 2 sticks of 4gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram and plop it in with your current ram to make 16gb. practically all ram nowadays plays nice with each other, so you don't need to get matching set (unless you want the eye candy)
suggest getting the ram used, rather than new. ddr3 is dead tech, so you won't be able to use it for a new system in future.

Exactly this, nothing wrong with your current setup to justify changing the whole thing, unless you just want to spend for the sake of having something new and shiny.

I'd change out the graphics card first, then the CPU, and add 8GB RAM as a last resort. If you decide the graphics boost has given you what you wanted, then no need to go any further until you find that you can't run games the way you want to.

If you want to upgrade then your cash and your choice, if no one spends then economy/tech race just grinds to a halt etc etc. Some people will out of wanting The New, The Best , Out of warranty or to pass on to family/friends which happens a lot on here.. keeping the PC user base expanding :)

Just so you know at least your system isn't **** :)

If you've been watching E3 closely , I could see the desire to upgrade as a lot of recommend Specs are for i7 3/4th Gen, but believe this is at 1080p 60fps gaming .

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £389.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

And wait for 8 core intel to come out before buying 2nd hand i7 K chip for your board ! Second hand market for i7 took a hit when 6 core came out, they use to hold their value so well as intel really never stepped up their performance .

Since you know the power of 144hz gaming. Could sell your current monitor and go 1440p 144hz gaming !
This will also put less stress on the CPU ! Either allowing you to keep the i5 or having an i7 last longer !

And slap on extra 8GB (2*4gb ) ram and golden !

thanks for the honest replys i thought my rig was past its sell by date as it was becomming choppy at some games. if i can upgrade some things in my computer then that that would be great, would it be better to sell the 2 4gb of ram and buy 2 8gb can my motherboard take DDR4 im not sure.
is my GFX card a problem as i know it is an old card now. would also need a better SSD as games are like 80gb these days.
is the i5 a decent Cpu atm. just needs a Overclock ?

PS was playing battlefield 5 i know its aplha but my computer was having a hard time with it.

no. ddr3 only. hence the suggestion to buy a used set.

not much difference (except cost). cheaper to get a used set of 2x4 gb sticks and to add it on to your current ram, compared to having to having to sell your 2x4gb sticks and then buying another set of 2x8gb sticks.

BF1/V like threads , specially for Multiplayer . Not just the pretty graphics on top but all the network coding , pathways and objects etc etc .

Why myself and others have mentioned grab GPU first, see how it goes, check out ram usage when your playing .

Should be able to judge whether it's worth grabbing extra ram and also grabbing second hand i7 , or upgrading core system, which I'd wait till Q4 personally . GPU swap should see you through till then and patches/game drivers

Just another quick question if you don't mind that GFX card that you posted is only HDMI if i remember right i did try and put my monitor into the hdmi on my gfx card and it wouldn't run in 144 mode will this be the same with the new gfx card
is it also better to get a high end card that will last a few years ? been out of the game because of working a lot so not up to speed with all the new stuff

Ok so turns out my Son as asked to buy my System or most of it.. as he only plays arma 3 rust and fornight and it can easy run them at ultra spec

thank for all you help. as my son will be having my computer apart from my Motherboard and Processor and ram forgot about that :D . would it be better to upgrade or wait for the B450 motherboards that i keep hearing about.

So i ordered the wrong RAM i ordered my old ram which is in my sons computer upstairs (Bows head in shame) i now have x4 4gb = 16 or i have some Team Group 8gb ddr3 2666. my question is now do i use the 16gb or the 8gb
can i send the ram back ? if not its ok as my son would be able to use it in his computer.. but i cant find the ddr 3 2666 anywhere on overclockers :(

another thing the moniter that i have do i use the DP port or the HDMI port.

Just so we don't get any wires crossed can you answer these questions ? :)

What kit did you order by mistake ? I assume the 4 x 4GB ?

Is the 8GB DDR3 Team Group 2666MHz another spare kit that you have ?

Does your Son have a DDR3 motherboard ? And how much ram does he have in it ?

You currently have the Z97X-SLI with 8GB Ram in it ?

As for the monitor the Display Port is the better option.

i ordered this one.. my son has 8gb of the Corsair vengeance in his computer. this was my old ram that i used to have, yes my son has a DDR3 mother board

the team group 8GB 2666MHz is in my computer atm. i was ment to order 8gb of the 2666

You currently have the Z97X-SLI with 8GB Ram in it ? yes with The team group 8gb

i would just order some more of the 2666 but i cant find any on OC

Of kit is not opened, just open RMA ticket for unwanted /mistake not opened

right im going to get a New motherboard and processor + ram
seen this posted a few times would it be ok for me and what cooler would i need for it as i have the intel one.
