£1500 Build

Not yet, was a late finish by the time I’d added my new monitor and rearranged my desk ready for work this morning.

Motherboard drivers etc need installing, will be some cyberpunk tonight. Bizarrely cyberpunk is the game that planted the seed to get back into Pc gaming.
Don't forget to check the memory is running at the correct speed if not already, Mite need to enable expo in the bios.

Also mite be worth updating the bios .

Urghh more problems. Computer just went to a black screen when downloading a game fans went crazy wild.

Restarted chassis fans didn’t spin up and won’t post stuck on red and amber mobo lights. Reseated Ram, tried individual sticks nothing changes.

Cleared cmos with jumper and fans come back on but still not posting.

Disconnected GPU and still the same. Anyone suggest next things to try? Or is it a faulty CPU?

Ohhh ffs. I’ve taken some picture of mobo socket and cpu no sign of burn or anything. Wasn’t even under load and temps were fine I’d been watching them.

just unlucky mate :(
you're just on the initial steep part of the U curve of failure
at least still well within the RMA period so just return to etailer for a new part

Thankfully it was with a retailer who are easy to offer refunds. Order again, plus paste and some cleaner for the paste. Cost me £20.

Gutted as I was just about post how much I was loving gaming again. I was in the process of downloading a load of game pass games as well.

When screwing the heatsink down you do it just over finger tight right? Obviously with a screwdriver. Trying to eliminate anything I might have done wrong.

What games have you had chance to play?

I did exactly what you have done last August and have loved every minute of it.

I have complete ignorance to the issues, or alleged issues but noticed there was mention of the Asrock Motherboard killing chips, could this just be a coincidence

Yes finger tight not 'Scotsman on an austerity drive' tight otherwise you can damage the pins on the socket or motherboard traces.

I think they were the 3d chips and there wasn’t any burn marks that I could see. I was playing Cyberpunk and I was just about to fire up Microsoft simulator and then it went pop :p

Thought was much, sounds like I didn’t over tighten anything. Did it just a little bit more than finger tight.

As tamzzy said, must just be unlucky.

Most likely, If it was ever going to fail then now is the best time to do so I suppose for ease of return.

Post a picture of the socket if you still have it just incase you missed something as there's been plenty of times when people have and it has been picked up on here.

make sure those pins remain undamaged if you aren't going to put the plastic cover back on...
...and if you do put the plastic cover back on, make sure you don't damage the pins whilst doing so!

I don’t have the plastic cover so that’s an easy decision to make! Case cover is back on so all should be fine.

I just hope when I install the cpu again it works.

May I ask, did you not update the motherboard Bios to version 3.25?

The screenshot above shows version 3.15 if I am not mistaken, and I am sure advice online for the Asrock motherboards was to update to 3.25 asap?

Not even put my own Asrock/7600x system together yet.

I hadn't updated it as I checked the change log and there didn't appear to be any major changes and the general advice was if it isn't broke don't touch it.
Of course now its broken.....
