£1500 projector needed for 6 nations!

You can get screens that are designed for daylight that use grey base high gain coatings I'm not upto speed on what is current though. Definitely worth it IMO looking at those pics going slightly cheaper on the projector and getting a good replacement screen.

Get a big grey screen that's got proper drop on it so you're not craning your neck. If you're not confident with placement get a model with a feature called lens shift, which allows you to pan the image without losing resolution.

Here is the current setup, I measured it all and promptly got drunk and lost the details :p

fairly sure it was 3.9m to the screen, I was also discussing with the chaps last night that the screen is ancient as well, have there been any screen advances in the last few years which would mean we should invest in a new one?

thanks again :)

Haha, well that is what a pub is for!

react 2.0 screen but maybe out of budget range, i've got an optoma hd 50 and it's watchable in sunlight (my screen is directly opposite a large south facing window)

I'd also recommend this (as I own one), but it's way out of budget.

A circa 108" electric tab tensioned Draper Screen with React 2.1 surface will be a good £1500+, so that's the whole budget blown.

A second hand screen might be a better choice, have a looky on avforums. But then it's a hassle to collect/have delivered down to where you are Will.

The screen in the pub looks tiny! With it's location and that of the projector also, shifting it over to fit in a larger screen could involve some effort. If you leave the socket for the projector where they are then shifting the mount to the right might let you fit in the 120" screen.

So given the budget, which is 1500 quid ish, could you please pick a screen and a projector to keep me and my rugby fans happy?

Going from your measurements in the OP it's a 92" screen (if my trigonometry is right :D). But it looks to be more like a 4:3 screen, so you'll be losing out even more with a widescreen broadcast!

There's a guy on avforums selling a hardly used EPSON EH-TW7200 for £1000, that would be a good buy if it is as low on the hours usage as he says it is. There are also a few people selling Grandview / Sapphire (same thing) electric 106" screens for £250-350. A 120" would be better for a pub if you can fit it in!

Brand new 120" screen £799:

Then look at a projector for around £600-800. It's a pub, so a fancy home cinema projector isn't needed with good blacks or shadow detail, you just want it to work well with sports and give a good image with motion.

Will take a looky later at throw distances (if I don't get drunk on fun at work), but second hand gets you a lot more value!

need it before saturday pal, I can assure you anything will be better than what we have, so if you could find one on amazon prime and give me the details I'll be eternally grateful, ideally want to start installing it tomorrow in case we need to get up in the roof and fart around with new holes etc..

cheers petal xx

Does it need to be an electric screen? If not how about

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-M...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=Z954E2M8DV22DQZ50CPD

and

https://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk...eh-tw6700-home-cinema-projector-w-lens-shift/

I am not at all sure if this is the best, but it is within budget, the epson has lens shift and a decent brightness?

That screen might take too long to get there, how about

I have ordered from audiovisualonline before and the service was top-notch.

cheers for everyone's help, in order to get things for tomorrow I went with audiovisualonline and after chatting to them for ages and ages I chose:

Epson EH-TW6700 Home Cinema Projector w/ Lens Shift 1 £1299.00
Grandview Cyber Series Electric Home Cinema Screen 120" 1 £799.00

Arriving tomorrow so I have a few days to get it setup, will update/bore you with the finished results :)

Nice one on upping the budget Will.

Saw that projector but discounted due to cost. Found a BenQ W1100 that would have worked within budget, but you definitely got a better projector here.

Going from the Epson calculator it'll do 3.5m-5.5m throw with that sized screen, so it should be nice and bright as it's at the lowest end of the zoom range :D

Enjoy the Rugby!

cheers mate, I forgot to ask about mounts, will I need to beef up the one we have or are they fairly universal?

Can't see what you have there. The projector is around 7kg, so fairly average weight.

Don't know much about the cheapy mounts as I've got a Peerless one that's low profile and rock solid. But it's hard to find and about £130 with one of those cheap ones or your current one probably fine for your new Epson.

If you need something cheap:

Love install photos, so looking forward to it. :)

I'll do my best, normally I dont bother but the camera on my phone no longer sucks (pixel xl) so might use it as an excuse to do a few before, during and after shots.

:)

I had to do the install on my own, so had no chance to take any photos, but I got it all up eventually, managed to trip the entire building twice but the end result was very worth it.

Not bothered to take a lights off shot, but currently the whole club is mesmerized by an HD wildlife program, the picture is outstanding - thank you all concerned :)

oh and feel free to laugh at the sky box install/balance ;)

Looks good, I love my projector, couldn't go back to a screen under 120 inches lol. When I visit my parents their 55" TV looks tiny :)

Need to get that light taken out! Well done mate huge improvement, can you not put the screen at it's lowest drop though? Still pretty high up imo.

Always one I go back and forth over - I can't use a projector for my general viewing and indeed end up watching many TV shows on my computer - but nothing comes close to my projector for watching a big budget movie release even a 60" TV is just so inadequate once you've gone wall sized display.

Not really too clued up on setting it up optimally, it has a million and one settings, but yeah I'm sure someone in the village will know what to do and tweak it accordingly :)

Just pull the screen lower (it will have a black bar at the top) and then use the vertical lens shift (probably one of the two knobby bots on the top above the lens) to lower the picture!

My viewing is on an iPad 9.7" to a 120" screen. I don't have anything inbetween at my place, my gf has a 22" TV that I can hardly see :D

Big movies are incredible on the wall, tonight I'm going to watch Rob Roy with the sound right up, luckily I have no neighbours.
