£1500 to spend on a laptop

You wanna look to get a laptop with the 9800M GT/GTS if you're looking for gaming with a laptop. I would advise forking out the extra £100 or so for the GTX version as the performance of it doesnt warrant the extra money

get a cheap laptop, and buy a gaming desktop its the way to go.
Gaming laptops just aren't worth it, unless your willing to spend over £2000..

Sure you want to reccomend nvidea graphics considering their burnout problems they are having atm?

Hey guys, sorry been away for a week or so. Just to clarify, I ment to say it's NOT worth spending an extra £100-200 for the 9800M GTX over the GT or GTS, the performance increase is rubbish for that amount of money. Typo

See: http://www.lancelhoff.com/2008/09/02/9800m-gt-vs-9800m-gtx-benchmark/

As for the Clevo D901C in the UK, yup I found one with the 9800M GT and Q9550 in for just over £1700 about a month and a half ago. I've checked back at the website and they now only sell them with the 9800M GTX for £2000, reflecting the crappy exchange rate atm.
However, if you ask really nicely, I've been told they might be willing to use one of their old GT cards and make one with that for cheaper, saving you about £150-200. Obviously I can't tell you who does them for fear of a whipping from the Mods, but if you check on notebook review forums they usualy have listings of retailers for the different Clevo barebone laptops in the UK.

As for the burnout problems with the nvidea cards, yup its true there's been quite a few problems with them, but thats why they give you warrenties. The only problems I've seen with them are in laptops with poor cooling solutions. Atm, the only cards that compete with the 9800M series performance wise are ATI's 3870HD and 4850HD. The 3870 benchmarks lower than all the 9800M cards and the 4850HD isn't really out yet.

OCZ have a deal for their ultima 15" mobile with the 9800M GTS for under £1000, for performance/price that would be my choice atm :D

Amen to this, gaming laptops are a waste of money. I had a Dell XPS M170 for two years...cost me £2000....it's now out of date and slow, and running its third graphics card.

The 9800 series do not have this flaw. Additionally, ATi have a poor selection of high-end laptop cards available.
