16 Personalities (again!)

PERSONALITY:
INTP
VARIANT:
ASSERTIVE
ROLE:
ANALYST

The one thing that really holds INTPs back is their restless and pervasive fear of failure. INTP personalities are so prone to reassessing their own thoughts and theories, worrying that they've missed some critical piece of the puzzle, that they can stagnate, lost in an intangible world where their thoughts are never truly applied. Overcoming this self-doubt stands as the greatest challenge INTPs are likely to face, but the intellectual gifts - big and small - bestowed on the world when they do makes it worth the fight.

The part bolded rings true so much for me.

INFJ PERSONALITY

The INFJ personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. As Diplomats (NF), they have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is the accompanying Judging (J) trait – INFJs are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.

Interestingly I did a Briggs Mayer test in about 2000 as part of corporate training.

Then I was ENJP (although only just E) but now it appears I'm more ENTP.. so.. probably the 15 years since has changed it slightly.

ENTP - Turbulent and Analyst.

Many years ago I was on a two week residential corporate management training at Henley management college. After a few beers in the bar the head psychologist and I got into a debate whether psychology was a science (I'm an organic chemist, or rather I was). Fortified by a beer or two and egged on by the people on the course with me I told her if psychology was a real science she could psychoanalyse me but it wasn't so she couldn't. Three times she asked did I really want her to. Three times I said yes because you can't, it isn't a science. So she told me things about myself that I don't let anyone know, deep hidden things about my fears my aspirations my shortcomings etc. She did this in front of my peers from all around the world. Now I'm scared of psychologists, they know things about you!

Sounds about right, in fact. Points towards my career choice in accounting being a bad one, which confirms my general feeling on it.

Imagine an immensely complicated clockwork, taking in every fact and idea possible, processing them with a heavy dose of creative reasoning and returning the most logically sound results available - this is how the INTP mind works, and this type has little tolerance for an emotional monkey-wrench jamming their machines.
^ Yup :)

Oddly I find myself pretty happy in predictive modelling which does kind of fit my personality profile.

The only reason I find this test is a little better than most is due to how little the other profile match (unlike star-sign rubbish which everything applies to everybody).

I think it's more the type of accounting I've been doing. Small practice previously (super-boring just churning through small/medium business accounts/tax with some audit (even more boring)), and now a role as financial controller where a fairly large part of my month is made up of the tedium of invoicing.

I do enjoy creating new performance analyses, or improving systems, but there's not all that much scope for such. I'm a step below Financial Director, so if I get myself into one of those roles, the scope for creativity does expand. Just need to push through the tedium in the meantime.

The summaries after are vaguely interesting for once with this sort of thing. Tbh I'd say it's summary of me is pretty accurate.

This is what I got as well. Pretty sure I used to be INTP, but I'm a lot more self-confident and outgoing now so it seems fairly accurate.

This is another reason why this whole thing is BS.

You can only be an explorer if you are extroverted. So, apparently introverts never go outside, never explore new things, etc.

It's so stereotypical and so much nonsense. I'm not a people person, but I love the outdoors, and love exploring. A lot.

But that doesn't fit these narrow profiles.

Why and how does social skills have a 1:1 relationship with exploration?

Pff, psychologists.

Comprising just 4% of the population, the risk of feeling misunderstood is unfortunately high for the INFP personality type
:p

You have to remember that this is just a "best match", and you also have to look at how strongly associated you are with each category.
e.g. I'm INTP at the moment, but my "P" score is very low, meaning I have a lot of INTJ quirks as well. You may also be borderline on one or more categories.
