Huh? You can get 32 GB sticks.

I've had 32 GB for years, simply because both times I got a great deal on the DRAM each time.
Two things to consider, though, when upgrading from 16 GB to 32 GB:
First, the more sticks of RAM you have, the slower each stick will be. This will particularly affect Ryzen. So consider carefully if you want 4x 8 GB or 2x 16GB.
Second, not all motherboards support four sticks for some models of DRAM. So check the motherboard's compatibility list.
Apparently Ryzen also doesn't always play as nicely with the larger capacity sticks. As you say a bit of research is always wise as motherboards/platforms do vary.
