.

Well when I graduate finally next year I will be moving in the the other half. My degree however is Games Technology so hoping to go into the industry at some point so hopefully the friends I make there will be up for some gaming.

Will be moving away from Bristol more than likely too so would have to keep in touch with a lot of people through live otherwise I'd never get to game with them much at all.

All the time. Play Halo with my mate all the time, my brother and others. Others sometimes play.

And in advance I'd like to say sorry I couldn't join you the other night Krono but saint's headset was broke so we were on the phone to each other, would have had people in both ears!

I love the people that keep attempting to make this a dig at my social life, especially when they know nothing about me :)

hey, no dig, just a facepalm :)

(its obv a pretty big part of your Uni life though as you admitted so in the OP, which imo and from my recollection of uni warranted it)

Used to have mates round all the time when I was at school. Now not so much. No one I know games as much as I do :(

All my joke material is useless :(

LAN's are the way forward - must remember to organise that Manchester place I talked about before....

Uni is awsome for gaming. Have my mates around all the time, 4 player rock band, woo!
And my gf plays games, but shes a beat'em up/rock band player, no fps' for her :(
BUT im living my 2 pc gamer mates next year so LAN time! lol.
Trained my gf upto 'hard' on guitar and 'medium' on drums ;) so it aint competition but its good for band play :D

That's because you're mentally incapable :p

I'm sure there must be a different reason for the others.

I'm the same I must have a full screen, I dont mind for things like brawl if you're all on the same screen, but if it gets split it bugs the hell out of me.

4 Player split screen Halo on system link I can cope with since its fun as hell. We used to have an xbox in each room and just have 4 people hooked up to each one, it was fantastic. Then they all went and bought Live  I've not played system link with them since =/ or even games for that matter, I play with people I met on OCUK more then I do with my RL mates.

So playing with you guys over live is the next best thing and my only option (not in a bad way) since they hardly play games anymore :(

Old Man entering the thread (35 !!!) I work full time, run a kids footy team and have new 4 week old son. Luckily I don't need loads of sleep so I find plenty of time for social gaming with my friends be it on PC or Console or at LAN's.

Since getting the X360 & PS3 last year I have found myself playing more single player as I was solely a PC Multiplayer (COD 4, BattleField 2, Company of Heroes etc). I'm not heavily into going out drinking so gaming like this fits with my lifestyle

Why do you feel that way? Split screen for coop, mario kart etc. is great as long as your screen is big enough, no?

I'd understand for versus FPS gaming though but that's about it.

Your right there, I think it's just more split screen shooters that I don't like. Gears is tollerable but only after about an hour or so of playing and I've got used to it, halo 2 and 3 split screen in coop I just couldn't get into :( Split screen mario kart isn't too bad, 2-4 player coop or Vs where everyones on the same screen I like (castle crashers and small arms spring to mind)

Guess I'm just picky :) lol

I'm the same I'd rather watch others play than share my screen space. I find split screen racers too distracting. I'd rather spend money on another screen and xbox and system link.

Rockband is about the only game I can local co-op and even that irritates my game.

I just hate sharing screen space, I'm very selfish! Get off my land!

Surely having your mates sitting next to you makes up for that though.

My only issue with split screen is when my nobber flatmate presses the guide button as I'm getting chainsawed in GoW2 online =/

However, as he is sitting next to me I can shout abuse to his face :)

I'm surprised given how competitive you are that you endure people like John mucking things up for you.

Heck I'm not just screen possessive I'm team possessive. I get stroppy if team mates answer the phone mid-game. I think thats one of the reasons Miss K no longer plays with us.

as a nearly thirty year old father of three my gaming sessions are reserved for the odd bash on Lego Star Wars/Indy Jones with my older two kids or the occassional odd night with a mate round
The only real sort of social gaming is when family or friends are round but then its more games like rock band, guitar hero or singstar (or, god forbid, the wii)
No one within my family or social circle are really into games at all - the vast majority of people I work with or have worked with look at me like im some sort of uber geek if I ask about gaming :(
Im afraid thats likely to be the sort of attitudes to gaming you are likely to encounter unless you enter into a profession where this is the norm

The closest I get is FIFA 09 with 1 or 2 mates every month or so.

Very few of my mates are into gaming and those that are only ever want to play FIFA. When it comes to playing FPS (or any non football game to be fair) I have no choice but to play on xbox live.

I prefer online 99% of the time for social gaming as you don't have to share a screen and the level of competition is much higher, you can also use it any time of the day and still find people to play with.

Even if I had 3 friends round for a gaming session, I'd much rather go online in a party together than be limited to 2 vs 2 or 4 player free-for-all.

Name and shame him, we all know its John :p
Of course it's John, no one else is that much of a pain in the ass, not even you.

I'd actually much rather play a crappy luck based game with people around me than play a competitive game without. I'm surprised how competitive you try to be though and the excuses you have given your crippling lack of talent for gaming :p

That's what worries me :(

Likewise, but that's social gaming at its best. 2 Wii's = 4 player Mario Kart online vs a bunch of random people on the net, which is a riot.
It probably would if I had any friends close by that were into gaming, sadly none of my friends are these days.
I see myself in that situation soon.
