.

I am OK with the OP's driving, in the particular scenario, visibility was good, and he only did it while safe to do so, pulling off to alllow the car back over before it could have got unsafe..

I had a neighbour once who really got upset with me for blasting my car up the street in 1st gear, and ranted at me about killing children who run out from behind parked cars etc.. That is until I pointed out that I only do it when visibility allows me to, and the day he sees me doing it when there is a parked car or other obstruction I can't see clearly behind he can come over and give me a good roasting about it.. That day never came..

I'll bear that in mind whilst overtaking a lorry and thinking of stopping at the next services for a jimmy.

No need, you seem to have misunderstood what I said, what would nark me would be the action of somebody flooring it whilst I was over taking them which is bloody dangerous IMO.

If I got wound up every time I was overtaken in my truck, I'd have burst a few blood vessels long long ago! :)

Can you just clarify, this seems to suggest that on a single carriageway A road a car went to overtake and you accelerated hard once you realised he was doing so, and continued to do so once he was alongside you?

and that he was travelling at 65mph in the New Forest which is almost universally 40mph maximum.

No, it's not.

To be fair to the OP he does mention that the NLS road is fenced off from horses and the like so could quite easily be any of the main A roads (A31, etc).

The thing that is most stupid about this, is, as Fox says, the fact that the OP wouldn't have known it was an M5. It could have been a 520d with a family on board driving back late from a holiday, all tired, and then some special person who thinks their 335i is the quickest car on the road and should not ever be overtaken, bangs their foot down to stop the person behind overtaking.....

Uncool

OP should have been done for dangerous driving. I had someone do this to me at the weekend but luckily on a fast dual carriageway. As I overtook a black Mercedes doing about 60 the driver accelerated up to 80. I wasnt going to be goaded into a race and just backed off and slipped in behind it. But it left me with the distinct impression that the driver was a total idiot likely to cause an accident in the future.

OP I hope the experience left you shaken, not stirred.

Well I wouldn't be so cocksure, seemingly you can't even spell the town in which your offices are based in?

A few things come to mind here:

1. Members of the intelligence service DO NOT EVER allow their job to be known. If they do, then they basically are without a job. The only exceptions to this can be people who have estate/utility roles within those civil service departments (i.e. receptionists, cleaners etc).

2. The locations of GCHQ (and any military/defense installation) can reside on any military base in the country. Harrogate is particularly big as it is shared by US and UK forces at Menwith Hill.

3. GCHQ do not operate a service that would require anything remotely exotic or fast. They are provided and acquire intelligence through the internet and communication networks, primarily, as well as seized exhibits afterwards (case in point, the Lost Prophets frontman who had his encrypted storage media decrypt by GCHQ).

4. MI5, GCHQ and MI6 are separate entities entirely. How often do you see a Land Rover in camouflage with RAF, Navy and Army plastered all over it?

I am calling this to be 100% fake. Either OP is faking it, attempting to get some credibility on the forums, or you've just been had by a joker.

no. like he said not everywhere is 40 in the new forest.

see the other side of these 40 signs on the A35 at lyndhurst, which is slap bang in the center of the NF, in streetview..

irrespective the OP drives like a tool.

I would not say that part of Dorset is The New Forest.:p

And I live here as well, the majority of roads within the New Forest itself (as in the Protected Zone) are 40mph or less, with some A roads being 50mph. Sections of roads like the A31 where the NSL are in force are the exception, not the norm...anyhow, its academic because deciding to race someone who is overtaking at speeds upto 120mph in the New forest, regardless of the posted speed limit is stupid in the extreme.

links through to lyndhurst A35? damn google, why do they have to make linking to a specific location such a pain now.

anyway A35 at lyndhurst, national limit road. still youd be a fool to drive at speed in the early hours due to the amount of deer along there.

but yes agreed, stupid either way.

Plus, my A31 reference has only one good section for such a retarded move between M27 and Ringwood, and you are right when you say it's the exception not the norm, but such 40mph limit roads in the NF do not have fences to stop animals straying, hence the speed limit :)
