Sport tourer is my preference in comparison to adventure bikes, but there really isn't a theme of a few good bikes to choose from.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing (they're all decent) or a bad thing (they're all crap) :p

Most are designed to be comfortable and well-handling over long periods of time along all manner of roads, so it really comes down to finding the one that you like best. I'm besotted with my FJ1200 but would look to things like the FJR1300 and the latest Honda Pan-Euro if ever I needed to change - I've tried both before and been suitably impressed.
But while these perform plenty-good while remaining Tourey, for outright Sport-Touring with more Sport to play with, I'd definitely be looking toward the Blackbird.
Anything with BMW on it, I'd just kick over and walk away - Great bikes with some great innovations and features, but if anything ever goes wrong they are a complete pain in the... At least they are if you're into maintaining them yourself. If you can afford a dealer every time, then fair enough I suppose...

VFR? One of the best "do everything" bikes, you'll have a choice between early and cheap models right up to the current brand new one.

Plenty around with both panniers and a top box.

Looking into it more, an older VFR800 looks great for luggage and cost. I just need to find a decent one to test ride for comfort.

How much money do you want to spend on a Tourer ?

And No I haven't forgotten to sort that Route out for ya I'm just never on my Laptop for long, Got a Samsung Tab 3 I do more casual browsing on but I will get round to sorting the route out for ya.

£3K or less ideally, up to £4K if it's really worth it.

I already have my toy and this is more of a work horse so I don't ruin it with too much weight :p

Keep it between 2 & 3k then you have 1k for Touring gear & luggage/better screen/seat/rubber/satnav etc etc etc

For that money I'd seriously look at the ZZR1200 Linky - http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bikes-for-sale/kawasaki/zzr1200/

Get one with Luggage/Frame etc already sorted/Heated grips/Better screen etc etc etc

Obviously my 1200 Trophy is in the same ball park maybe 2500 quid, Ultra comfy, Reliable etc But I'd recommend the ZZR1200 to others as servicing & parts are more readily available throughout the Country/Europe/World wide.

That Green one at the bottom of the page - 15k, FSH, Luggage, Alarm, Hit the Buy button. :D

I live in the land of milk and money, so I will have to source one locally.

I'll have a good nosey around for review on that model though as it looks very interesting, cheers :)

Edit: It has silly power!

Edit 2: There's one with a modified seat and full luggage near me. 23K KM's for CHF 5K, I'll have to see if I can get a test ride.

Silly power ??? Does not compute :p

It's a beast for sure but from what I've heard the Chassis is superb, You'll want plenty of power when 2 up & full of luggage especially going up & down those mountains. With the ZZr12 being so capable you can enjoy good speeds that are reasonable & know you have a bike more than capable of handling it & stopping. A 100mph 2 up on the autobahn (:D) would be quite comfortable, It will do it all day long & will still stop on a six pence.

I Love my Trophy it's unreal comfy I could ride it all day easily, Once in 6th I can go all the way down to 35mph & just roll on the throttle all the way to the top. Once moving you don't notice the luggage or pillion & the brakes & chassis are built to cope with it. I can honestly say it's a completely different way of riding. Stable comfy & no poncing about. :p

What you describe is exactly what I'm after.

7K rpm on the motorway 2-up on a Street Triple with a loaded rucksack isn't exactly ideal.

Shame you're not close enough to ride mine as I've had a few bikes now & nowt rides like my Trophy. Kind of hard to explain really but for starters folk think a bike has 1 comfy position but if it only has 1 seating position you'll be uncomfortable in an hour or so. A big Tourer has lots of different positions & riding them is so easy you can move about with out upsetting the bike or your comfort. Do an hour, move a bit do another hour move a bit, You get me ?
Then the Torque does all the work so your not pulling on the clutch all the time & shifting gears you just sit there comfortably & motor on.
Don't know whether I've already mentioned it but I don't own a car to use any more, I have a few to sell but none for personal use as my Trophy takes care of everything. Out without luggage on I have my fun & if I need to carry owt or anybody I don't even notice apart from the odd noise going over a bump. :p
Even motorways aren't a chore any more, Sit down in the seat behind the screen & sit at what speed you want not at what speed you can bare. Screen takes all the Bugs as well I only get them on the top of my lid now & none on my leathers or visor. Rains no biggy either as the visor doesn't take any ****.

After all that I am going to buy myself summit cheap to rort about but that'll just be a cheapy I can rash around on but for Touring, doing any miles or any chores I'll always choose my Trophy. :)

^ Indeed!
What matters more about these bikes is how easy/awkward they are to control, both in steering and in throttle response.
My bike will do 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds... but you have to intentionally push it so and the weight makes it very easy to manage. Generally it's quite a relaxed and easy ride, which is what the Tourer side is all about and just what I need in Friday afternoon traffic following a long week at work. The Sport side only comes out when *I* want it to and a slight accidental slip on the throttle on a tired Monday morning won't flip me or catapult me into the car in front.
