Government plans to monitor all communications by private individuals without a warrant:

I honestly cannot imagine anyone in the country who would be foolish enough to give any government this power. What is this country turning into? China, Iran? They have absolutely no need for this power, whatever they try to say there is no increased risk of terrorism in the country, there was 1 attack 5 years ago, its not like there are bombs going off every fortnight.

This is one law I will join a protest against and I hope everyone here will too if you value living in a free society, if this law passes then you are free no longer. It's just a short step from this to a list of banned sites that grows and grows and gets you sent to jail for visiting.

Ever watch a film like V for Vendetta and wonder how the people let the country become an authoritarian state? I bet you thought to yourself, that's impossible we'd never let that happen. Well this is it, this is that authoritarian state beginning right here, will you sit back now and let it happen or will you show your government that Britons still value their liberty above all else?

The article points out the last Labour government tried to pull this. Outrage and annoyance stopped it.

I see the same thing happen again.

Oh and first mistake is thinking you were free to start with.

And this will do nothing to stop terrorism, it's just a scapegoat. In fact it may encourage terroism, how many people will be annoyed if it passes?

It was the current government that stopped it by saying it was going too far, now they are attempting to pass an even more outrageous law.

Time to don the proverbial tinfoil hat... and install PGP. Although in saying that, I was about to go all raeg!!! but then I read Ian's comment on the BBC website...

We are happy to post everything on Facebook for all to read, we are happy for Google to know everything we view. Google have been reading our emails for years. Yet we wont let the government do so in the interests of security. Why do we trust Google, Facebook and the News of the World so much but not our elected government. I am not for this change at all, but we need to put it into perspective.
I agree with this guy 100%, especially the bold bit.

Really? In my experience if you ask a room full of people if the government should have this power there is usually at least one moron that says "It doesn't bother me, I have nothing to hide."

If your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. Unless you are accused of something you never ever did in the first place. (Very worrying).
