1994 the best year of cinema

I'm not having 1994, you've listed one good film there (Pulp fiction) the rest baring maybe Ed wood, are completely forgettable.

Shawshank Redemption forgettable? I'd reeeeeeeeeeeeealy like to see some of you guys here direct a film given the chance.

2003.

LOTR: ROTK
Finding Nemo
Pirates of the Caribbean
Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions
School of Rock(!)
Kill Bill
Big Fish
Love Actually
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Phone Booth
28 Days Later
Lost in Translation
Monster
Girl with a Pearl Earring
Gigli (baaaa hahahahahaha)
City of God
Bubba Ho-Tep

1995 tbh.

Toy Story
Batman Forever
Ace Ventura : When Nature Calls
GoldenEye
Jumanji
Casper
Die Hard With A Vengeance

Shame Lion King was in '94, would have made the best year ever.

You have to remember some people think a good film is just a mix of CGI and expolsions :p

Nothing wrong with CGI and explosions, when used in moderation they can compliment the film like nothing else :)

To say Shawshank is forgettable is incredible though. Two of the best acting performances you'll ever see and an incredible script.

Film is all preference though, so meh...

Or 2001...

Harry Potter, Philosophers Stone
LOTR: FOTR
Shrek
Monsters, Inc
Pearl Harbour (baaaaa hahahahahahaha... oh Affleck, you continue to crease me up)
Oceans Eleven
Beautiful Mind
Black Hawk Down
Vanilla Sky
A.I.
Swordfish
Knight's Tale
Behind Enemy Lines
Royal Tenenbaums
Enemy at the Gates
KPAX
Zoolander
Godford Park
Amelie
Snatch
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Memento
Mullholland Drive
The Devil's Backbone
Donnie Darko

Tbh for an award like this (best year for movies) i'd rather pick a year that had a lot of "decent" experiences at the cinema than one that had 1 or 2 excellent, unforgettable films out.

^ Pretty sure that Snatch was 2000.

Agree that it was a good year for films though and you can add both Bridget Jones' Diary and The Fast & The Furious to that list as well :)

You're the one that comes in and says "I'm not having", implying that your opinion is in some way more valid. Why do you expect this rudeness to be tolerated?

"I'm not having that", to everyone who doesnt live in their bedroom/dorm 24/7 is a common phrase among people as a friendly term of disagreement.

As for rudeness, what I said isnt rude, its a knock back against the sheer snobbery of the of the post directed at me.

I found it forgettable, its just like everything else Frank Darabont has chucked out, distinctly average to awful.

As for directing a film, I would love the chance.

After all, its what Quentin Tarantino did, worked in a video shop, said to himself "I could do that", and did.
A lot of his set ups are very simple, even now.

As for a best year in films, well, lets have a think about the most common films that lead to excitement here.

Top Gun.
Aliens.

Then other classics.

Stand by me
Manhunter
Platoon
Big Trouble in little China
The Color of money
Flight of the Navigator
The Fly
The Hitcher.
Highlander
Ferris Buellers day off

Quite a few others as well.

1986 by the way.

And this is where the subjectivity becomes apparent. I think Shawshank is considerably better than Top Gun.

I didnt say I thought Top Gun was great, I said "what generates excitement on here", and the question was put to me to pick a better year.

I did, I could pick a couple more "better" years for cinema against the choices of the OP.
