Congrats, I'm sure it'll be quite mind blowing. :)

Let's just hope it doesn't BSOD or IRQ conflict on you mid-corner. :p

Well done Fett, a great car it would seem I am sure you will be more than pleased with your purchase.

Thank you, but I know you are just being a gentleman :D

Oh good, you bought a computer.

/obligatory JRS Luddite comment.

:D

Can't say that I would go for one, but if you like that sort of thing then that really would be the ultimate example. As such, I'm contractually obliged to say "wow". And if I put my work hat on, I would continue to say "wow". But it really, really isn't something I'd go out and buy.

No worries, it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing or thought the same way. I'm assuming your post was etched into a stone tablet under the moonlight and forwarded via a large carrier pigeon for somebody to copy here?

I keed, I keed.:D

Congrats, I'm sure it'll be quite mind blowing. :)

Let's just hope it doesn't BSOD or IRQ conflict on you mid-corner. :p

That's a horrible thought, my only concern up until that comment was the possible ugly consequence of a tight left hand turn.

I should point out that the deposit is fully refundable subject to test driving the car. The order system goes live on April 2nd and I'm insisting on something in writing that every penny comes back if I don't want the car. There is a 500 car allocation it seems, so if I say no, I don't think there will be a problem for Middlehurst's to shift it on, especially with the projected 6-9 month delay for those that are going for the sat-nav option. It's also a good possibility <s>Dats</s> Nissan will be doing some test drives on track, so that could be interesting but a bit devious...I want to know what it's like on our roads.

My problem at the moment is twofold. Nothing seems absolutely set in stone regarding the colours available for the Black Edition and I have 10 days to reject my R8 order. I'm not going to get a test drive in the next 10 days for the GT-R, so I could be cancelling the R8 and then hating the GT-R and cancelling that as well. I've waited some time for the R8 as it is, that was the car I mentioned in my A8 thread, and with no official confirmation on the V10, the R8 does seem to be an itch I would like to scratch.

There is the VFM issue though, and what state of tune you could bring the GT-R to with some of the money saved over an R8, Amuse have already got some very tasty bits ready to go. If I cancel the Audi, I'm basing my decision entirely on a Fifth Gear review, a few vids of C.Harris, an Edmunds video on YouTube and 3 UK magazine shootouts. All weigh heavily in favour of the GT-R, but the whole idea of losing my build slot on the Audi is slightly unsettling based on others opinions, even if they are very well qualified to comment.

(Pics of my build confirmation letter from Audi available on demand for the Hovis bunch, before it starts.)

Middlehurst in st helens? i goes there a lot ;)

That's the one. Go have a gander...walk in, turn left and you'll see a large, white perforated roller door, it's locked up in there. Up to the back of the main room, left hand door and your in. Or, just ask I guess.;)

Do I need to ask a passing mod for a poll? Perhaps I didn't word my last reply quite so well in asking for a Motors opinion. The last time I asked for advice here, I went with the majority ( {re: wheels on a BM} albeit my personal choice won).

I'm thinking performance, VFM, exclusivity and aesthetics right now. Marque is not important, which slightly conflicts with exclusivity, but meh, I'm looking for some decent insight. Already had some heavy opinions from some friends, would like to see if they match Motors outlook :) Time is getting tight.

Cheers.

Very nice, now if you can just get this engraved nicely in the boot the car will be complete:

S K Y L I N E

:D

Get the R8, test drive the GTR. If you prefer the GTR, sell the R8 for more than you bought it for, buy GTR. Easy.

It would be nice if it were that simple, but unless I pay the remaining £2500, I won't be getting a test drive in the GT-R anytime soon. By then, the R8 will have been cancelled and I've lost out on my build slot. I have no assurance the R8 will sell at a premium come November, and even if I did and wanted the GT-R, I would be impossible to buy new, to my spec, come March '09.

Nissan have screwed the pooch a bit on this, it seems that the options for the JDM are not for the Euro Spec. We get the special 8 stage Ultimate silver for free unlike the rest of the world if we go for the Black Edition (darker alloys and red trim on the interior), but if you want one in Dark Metal grey or Titanium, you can't have the smoked alloys. £500 at a decent bodyshop will sort this, but it's just stupid that Nissan are claiming that smoked alloys on the Premium edition will slow production. Better yet, if you want it in red, you cannot have the black/red interior combo.

I got my confirmation letter from Middlehurst's today and was a little put off about some odd punctuation and grammar and the fact they are calling it a Skyline GT-R, when Nissan have made it clear it is not to be referred to in this manner for dealers. Compare that with my R8 letter and we are talking worlds apart. This is obviously a very small thing, but it grates with me...a tiny and probably stupid part of me thinks that this *may* be a reflection of things to come. Then again, I'd hate to be so ignorant as to dismiss the Nissan on such grounds.

5 day left to call it. Any other opinions? 3-1 so far in the Audi's favour. Interestingly, not a reflection of the reviews I have read.

-------------------------------------------------

The GT-R: (£55,000)

0-60: 3.5 (3.3 from Edmunds)
0-100 : 8.3
Around Bedford's West circuit (EVO magazine): 1.21.7
Top: 193 mph

-------------------------------------------------

Audi R8: (£83,000 to my spec)

0-60: 4.4
0-100: 10.2
Around Bedford's West circuit (EVO magazine): 1:22.1
Top: 187 mph

-------------------------------------------------

I like to think I have a good idea of the pro's and con's of each, and stats are not the be all and end all.

I'd like and appreciate your valued opinions. Cheers.:)

Id in no way be willing to splash out a further £28k for a Audi R8. GTR hands down for me.
