So about 6 weeks ago i got a new build costing £1k.

i7 2600 (3.4ghz).
8 gigs ram
GTX 560ti.

admittedly i am only running a resolution of 1366x768.
But all the games i've played so far graphics wise are the same as my xbox360.

games played: Crysis- some good scenes but a lot of it the graphics seem clumbsy, popping in etc.
Fear 3. jeez that looked kinda out of focus.
F1 2011. very mediocre to look at.
Mafia 2. again looks nice in places but poo in others, graphics drawing in the far distance etc.

latest nvidia drivers etc.
all games running on max/ultra.
all games run smooth.

I didnt even bother trying Rage with all the pc problems i've read about so i got it on Xbox360. obviously my expectations are lower but it does look bloody sweet.
i also got Forza 4. hell thats a good game to play and look at.
also got my tiger woods 12 back as you cant even get a decent golf game on PC anymore.

Im not being a troll, hell i spent £1000 to get back into pc gaming.
if im honest to "me" it feels like gaming on the PC other than RTS games is really over.
its not just the graphics as well, i just feel the games play "different". not as good.
I havent got room for a monitor where the PC is so i currently have to use my sony tv with the 1366x768 res. but surely cranking the res up to 1920x1080 isnt gonna magicaly transform these games to look so different?

in short my £1k pc is like looking at xbox games with less jaggies.

Play at a higher resolution then come back and tell us that. At the moment you are playing at 360 resolution but with AA so of course it will look the same but less jaggies. Also get some games that aren't multi-platform. Hard Reset, Crysis with mods, Witcher2, GTA4 with the ENB mod.

1336x768....says it all.

anything above 1440x900 to 2560x1080, 1920x1080 those are the res's you want to play at, full hd.......then load up BF3, Crysis, Crysis 2, just cause, witcher 2 all these games and then tell me its like looking at 360.

You're doing it wrong.

Check FEAR3 hasn't got Depth of Field, Motion Blur or any of that nonsense enabled, you gotta be careful with games these days a lot of the time they have graphic distortion enabled by default.

In terms of resolution, chances are it is probably 32" or larger, and 1366x768 won't look too great on a screen that size if sitting up close, you need 1920x1080 minimum.

I wouldn't expect higher resolution to be a miracle fix, it will look better in terms of blockiness and make things more refined, but chances are if you are underwhelmed by Crysis then maybe your original synopsis is correct, I wouldn't rush out and spend a fortune on a higher resolution screen just yet.

I don't know why people are suggesting he should have bought a new monitor, it clearly states in the OP he doesn't have room for one. Best option might be to sell the current TV and buy a new 1080p one.
