1p/2p's in a 4.5ltr Bells Bottle.

my boss had something similar to this and rather amazingly, it got stolen when his house got burgled.

imagine the weight!

My uncle has a big coin sorting machine, it's pretty cool actually. Everyone just dumps all their coppers into the big bin at the side of it, it sorts them and puts them into tubes of each coin which hold a certain capacity, like £1. When they're full up, he just empties it into a bag and cashes it. Very noisy though when you put a lot in it. Sounds more like it's grinding the coins up, rather than sorting them, but it is fast.

I also had a little box when I was younger, that I shoved all my money in. Opened it a few years ago, and there was about £400 in there. Really pleased with that.

For the past three years ive used a pringle tub filled with random change but somewhere along the line someone stuck and covered it in drawing pins.

And apart from looking like some strange iron maden torture device for arms and hands, its been very usful whenever I needed to pin somthing up or get change for the bus.

I just used one of those change machines that you get in saisburys. Just pile loads of coins in and the machine count it up for you (take a small cut) then prints you off a tickets to exchange at customer services.

This thread inspired me to have a look how much change has accumulated in my drawer. I always empty my pockets into it before chucking my clothes in the wash. This is like a months worth.

Also found was some PC thumb screws, a book of stamps, rechargeable batteries a crumpled up tenner and 1.2kg of pocket fluff.

Likewise, but without the stray £10 note apparently :(

Why in a bottle, keep pennies in the car incase you go a few pence over what you want to put in (£5, £10 etc.)
Or just spend it, what i do, i'm starting to refuse to come back from town with about £20 in coins pulling my trousers down, just pay for drinks in the smaller change, it's annoying but makes sense.

Haha, same remote. Looks like you have more change there, i spy a couple of £2 coins as well.

Still cant believe i found a 1/2p coin.

Haha I just threw in the remote as it was the same as yours :p

The totals are in

1p x 361 = 361
2p x 179 = 358
5p x 215 = 1075
10p x 69 = 690
20p x 79 = 1580
50p x 61 = 3050
£1 x 41 = 4100
£2 x 5 = 1000

Total = £122.14

(in piles of 10)

Not too bad :D Although I probabaly wouldn't cash in a fair amount of the 50p pieces which are the limited run ones as I'm trying to collect them all...

Can't believe I spent the best part of an hour sorting that. Other coins:
1 x 1F
1 x 5 cents
1 x 2 cents
1 x 1996 £2 football limited edition coin
1 x Pirates of the Caribbean coin

My local HSBC has a counting machine that doesn't charge, but I think you need a HSBC/First Direct account to pay into it.

I put any lose change in my pocket into an old Quality Street tin, then take it once a year there, empty it, and normally walk away with about £100 in crispy notes.

So many times i've thrown away 1p and 2p pieces.. Hmm I think I may do this with a nice big bottle start up a silver bottle aswell as another poster said they do with anything under 50p.

I cleared it with my bank (Lloydstsb) today and they said any mount of bagged (1's or 2's in £1's) copper was fine. I rang the Lloydstsb support number to confirm it was okay - I didn't want to get into town with 50 quid of copper only to be told they couldn't accept it

Worryingly though, the advisor had to put me on hold while she 'checked it out' with her supervisor... They obviously don't get these sorts of enquiries that often?

A few statistics for you; the bottle full weighed about 45.6lb or 20.7kg. A 1/2p £1 bag weighs approx. 12oz's.

Since emptying the bottle, I've gone for a coin mixture: anything I have in my pockets left over at end of the day gets deposited :D

my brother did this the other day with collection of change he had laying around. Filled up a couple of carrier bags. After he had done his business he walked away with 500 odd dollars :O

I deposit my change, 10p or less, in any container I can find - currently a shuttlecock tube.
However when it's full I take it to the local charity shop.

I do this with change I have left over, pound coins, everything, doesn't take long until I have about 50 in there.

The HSBC 1/2p bag's have to be seperated into a pounds worth of 1p's OR a pounds worth of 2p's not both.

They weigh the bag when you take it in to save them counting 5000 pennies :)
