1st Build - experiencing CPU Temperature problems (80c+ at idle!)

My E4300 ran completely fanless for a while due to the mobo being really dumb about turning the fan on, the heatsink of the stock cooler kept it cool enough to not be thermally limited, I was really surprised.
 
You got lucky that you didn't kill the chip. :p

You wont kill it by heat unless its prolonged. Only by overvolting it at the start can you kill it like that and thats gota be a lot of volts . the q6600 should go up to 95/100 degrees before cutting off. Even then it wont die its just crashed to stop it getting hotter.
