Essence ST/STX, Aego M + Senny HD650/Grado RS1 for serious listening.

Better than my previous Arcam + B&W 6 series set-up. Better than the Bi-Amped set-up i had before that with Mission 783 floorstanders and better than the 7.1 receiver + Mission 735 set up i had before that. All of those had great room filling ability, but i love the dedicated headphone amp/Headphone combo and the Aegos are no slouch either.

It's the Essence that makes the difference in both cases so if it's good sound you want make sure the source is top quality, otherwise the rest don't matter!

Cant afford an essence im afraid, so im stuck with my DX, headphones are goldring ns1000's which are pretty good. Just need some better speakers.

Edifier S330D have somewhat mixed reviews, unlike the 1600s which seem so far to be solid, some people have had some rather ropey build quality with the 330s.

Arent the edifier 1600's a 2.0 setup? Are you using those Rroff, if so whats your thoughts? My primary uses will be music in flac and blu ray, i game with my headphones on.

Yeah 1600s are 2.0, pretty decent but a little lacking bass wise if you like thumping bass (in all other regards I can't fault them) - was more contrasting the fact that so far most people have had good results from the 1600s yet the 330s which are by the same company and assumably built in the same place have had very mixed results.

The Aegos aren't bad, but there's better 2.0 setups out there these days.

My Companion 20s blow the Aegos away - punchy bass, incredible detail and amazing sound stage (best surround I've heard from 2 speakers).

In comparison, the Aegos suffer for a small and indistinct sound stage and the mids really leave a lot to be desired.

From what I've heard - not tried them myself - those corsairs are good for gaming but a bit medicore for music and movie useage.
