2.2gig file wont download

If i try to download a 1gig video file on a newsgroup thats fine.
If I want to download a 2.2gig video file on the same news group It never allows it and the download sticks.

Is this a limitation of a 32bit operating system (XP-service pack3) ?

I'm using FDM (free download manager).
10mb connection.

No, you can have files up to 4GB in size in 32-bit operating systems.

the other 2gig is used for the kernal.

I was able to read a larger than 2GB file just fine although that was with a UDF\ISO file system on a DVD I made.

Is it true a 64bit operating system would allow me to download a maximum file of 8tb ?

Even with XP x86 you can have files up to 16TB. 2GB and 4GB are limitations of the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems respectively.

I thought my file system was NTFS.
why cant I download 2.2gig files?

yes i was thinking that.
but FDM gives me up to 16 connections.

I looked into "getright" but only offered me 4 connections.

I will have to research an alternative.

Yeah getright limits you to 4 connections per mirror.

Anything over 4 different connections to the same file on the same server is a little... well pointless. You are going to get more and more overhead from the tcp/ip connections and probably slow down everyone elses connection by clogging up the server.

If the server is limiting you per connection then you probably shouldnt be going around that... they wont like it. You can change the limit in gtright by going into your registry btw, just google getright limit regedit

Internet explorer can't download files larger than 2GB in size apparently, so if you are using that it may be the reason.

How about something like Flashget? I've not used it for a while but it was free last time I checked and it allowed a custom number of connections to be made (I used to use 8 but I think it allows more than that i.e. 16).

Are you sure that you are using ntfs and not fat32.

You can check by going into my computer and right clicking on one of you drives and choosing properties.

I thought fat32 had a filesize limit of 4 gig so that's me confused.

As stated above.

IE won't download anything larger than 2GB.

Flashget is the way forward. It's free and will allow you have have multiple threads to the same file so you can get much faster download speeds.

Your problem has nothing to do with the file system that you're using.
