Hi, I have been given a 2.5"laptop hard drive to take some data off and then format it so i bought a 2.5" - 3.5" Converter, but on the 3.5" end of it, it doesnt have the middle missing pin and all my ide cables have a blank space so the pin cant go in it.

Hope you all understand and look forward to your responces.

I know what you mean about the filled in pin socket, is it the same on both ends of the cable or even the middle connector if you have a 3-way lead? I don't have a desktop computer here just now to check I'm afraid.

You'll have to find an older style IDE cable or cut one of the pins off the 2.5-3.5 converter (need to be sure its the right one) Or possibly use a soldering iron to burn a hole where the "blanker" is on the IDE cable? I had the same problem when i was doing the same thing recently.

Ask around people you know/take one from an older PC.
