if i was to upgrade my 64 3000, 6800gt 256 to an x2 3800 and a 7600 or possibly a 7800 (agp) would i see much of a performance increase? if so, how much?

I think you will see a definate improvement in performance - especially while multitasking. Gaming should also be much better :)

The X1800 might possibly be the best card out of the two, the conroe is most definately the better of the two CPUs.

Good choices. You will deffo be very happy. What about the rest of your spec? You can't just drop a Conroe into any mobo... and there is the DDR2 RAM to think about...

Well, most modern games rely mostly on the graphics card, so at a guess I would say the X1800 is the better card for gaming. However there is absolutely no reason why you cant get a Conroe system with an X1800.

its cash limits, if i go conroe i need to get new ram as well, so i have to spend less on the gfx :/

Well unless you buy the Asrock which supports ddr1 and ddr2 you have to buy new RAM anyway assuming your going AM2 (939 isnt worth it imo).

Just spend lots of money :D Rob a bank or mug an old lady... itll be worth it! :D

In all seriousness though I wouldn't bother getting a conroe rig if I am going to be stuck with a 7600. You might as well wait until you can afford yourself a very tidy rig :)
