2 Loops ???

Guys,

I have just added 2 hd4890's to my overclocked cpu and the temps have obviously gone up and are both idle at about 45c which is not ideal as I too want to overclock the cards.

I have a cosmos S case and a triple rad on the top (inside) and the pump and res below the hard drivers. Has anyone managed to get 2 loops inside this case and if so how and what you used?

I would rather keep everything in the case so external rads not really something I want.

Thanks for you help.

Also I have jusy added the AeroCool Easy Watch display and have added an inline sensor at the out barb on the cpu and the out barb on the 2nd gfx card but the readings are about 10-15c less than what gpuz and core temp states. Is there a way to get acurate readings to my display rather than depend on software ?

I really apreciate advice as I am at a stand still now :(

Guys I need serious help with this :(

my temps are silly so I think I need a 2nd loop and I know the cosmos s case has loads of room but for some reason i dont know where to begin to add a 2nd loop?

Where will it all fit??

I have 2 writers, 3 hard drives no I remember someone putting a double rad in the front in the bays but for the life of me dont know how they did it also where can i put another pump ?

So someone out there must have a cosmos s case and in the past installed a 2nd loop.

As Suggestions and guidance would be most welcome :)

heres a suggestion for u

1. fit double rad to hard drive bay , double rad is going to take up an extra 3 bays up

2. fit 2 x 120s to exhuast and intake in front of power supply use with xspc laing ddc double pump res (can fit 2 pumps but shared res) for ur 2 loops tri rad cooling the graphics and the 2 120's cooling ur cpu

u could even install a 3 rd 120 if installing the 2 120's

I've replied to your rather similar thread Here which hopefully clears up your confusion as to water temps vs processor temps and 'accuracy'.

If you still have questions on this note, reply to that thread and I will clarify.

Consider whether a second loop is needed, it's quite likely that another radiator in the same loop will be fine. This is certainly something to try before getting another pump. If you can't find a place internally, even with a dremel, mount it externally. If you want to go all the way, you could assemble an external radbox [box with radiators and fans in]

Watercooling gallery may feature your case if you need ideas.

Cheers

the way i have told u to mount the rad is different from how i have done it in mine because of having a quad installed as well as a double bay res/pump and fan control

heres a link to how my set up is at the moment

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18014480&highlight=cosmos+mission

i will be swapping out the dual for 2 x 120's to save on space and improve air flow in case

also will be removing the the hard drive bay and replacing with an icy dock

my current 750/res combo will be replaced with the laing ddc dual pump/res

should be all up and running by friday i hope time permiting

Any more suggestions guys as I am holding back for advice before I spend on the parts as I dont want to waste my money to only find I cant put it anywhere?

I have also decided on getting the alphacool LCD for temp monitoring rather than the silly inline sensors I bought :(

So guy ideas please asI can fry egg and bacon on my cosmos s case top :(

i cant tell what youre asking for advice on, could you be clearer please?

If this is still about trying to monitor water temperature, just let it go man. It doesn't matter unless it drops below ambient. Trust the software, or sensors stuck onto things

no its not about temps have sorted that :) I just dont know how to fit 2 loops in my cosmos case as after the psu i have all cables from hard drivers etc and have tried to route them round the back etc but no matter how i attempt it i just get nowhere? I was trying to add another rad and pump etc so i can have a loop for my cpu and one for my 2 hd4890's

I am assuming i could get away with a double rad for the gfx cards and stick with my triple for the cpu as thats overclocked.

So this is my problem i dont know what to buy as i dont know where to fit it and i want it inside the case not a bolt on the rear of the case as i dont have the room anyway under my desk for that so want it all inside

Lets have some pictures of the internals then, and see what we can do for you.
How many hard drives are you running? If you can get them in backwards you'll find all their cables far easier to route.
A triple is almost certainly overkill for the processor, but we'll see what the pictures suggest.

Cheers

Ok here is some pics (should have done this to start with)

This is the side view of the case

Congested area with sata/power cables. Here I would like to fit a 2nd pump/res the same as already in pic, so 2 in total side by side ?

Triple Rad on the top of case that I was originally using for my overclocked cpu alone 3.71ghz (q6600 2.4ghz). Now all in the one loop :(

This is the front view of the case, I have 3 hard drives and did have 2 dvd writers but removed 1 to gain extra space. The top 2 slots I am going to install the Alphacool LCD Display to monitor temps etc.

This is the top view of the case showing the 3 fans on top of my triple radiator.

Hope these pics help and desperatly waiting for some guidance :)

Wow. Quite a resolution there. not always a bad thing, they are very detailed. It'll be a bit difficult to shoot, but can you take a couple of pictures of the exhaust fan on the back? one dead on holding the camera near the processor, one dead on from the open side? I think a 120 will fit there, would like to be sure before suggesting one.

Turn the hard drives around and feed all the cables back out through the open bay. Conenct to board, then stuff the excess into the vacant hard drive bay. That'll go a long way to cleaning up the cables, and should mean a second pump/res fits there quite happily. End result looks remotely like:
2cyjevs.jpg

Though thats one hard drive and one floppy drive, the cables are routed well out of the way. It's also my computer, and I'm pleased with the radiators at the front :)

Next up, what fans are those, and what voltage are they running at?
From one of the pictures I believe they're exhaust. Good for airflow in general, not so good in that they're pulling warm air over the radiators. Turning them around will lead to warmer ambients inside the case but cooler water. More important, I don't believe you're using shrouds with them. Get 3 old fans, rip the middle out, clean them up a bit with a knife and put them between the fans and the radiators. Shrouds help lots.

Can you turn the radiator around and connect one of the barbs directly to the cpu block? It looks like this should be possible, it would reduce tubing length considerably and make using some of the optical bays a lot easier. If you can fit a 120 over the rear exhaust, you could run cpu -> triple -> single -> graphics card -> pump -> cpu, there will be one long unsightly tube running from processor to pump but thats all. Note that this suggestion is for continuing one loop, but with shrouded fans on the triple, less tubing, and an extra 120 on the rear.

Next up, could you explain how the front of your case works? Are those all optical bays, and you have a hard drive cage that fits in whichever you wish? If so, a 120 on intake can probably be fitted accross 3 or 4 of those. I'm going to look to see if you've posted your load temperatures somewhere, a triple shouldn't be struggling that much with crossfire + cpu.

Your case seems to have less room than its famed for. 45 idle are the only temperatures I see reported, what are they loading at? As long as nothing is goes over 70 you're quite safe to test. Your overclock may no longer be valid. Is the alphacool radiator decent? I know nothing about the brand. Is it about 3cm or 6cm thick?

Please reduce the resolution :)

Move the drive cage down two. You can fit a 120 on the back fan, so that's good. For the time being, put your processor back to stock and consider undervolting. Shutting down from overheating doesn't help anything.

This suggests to me either a bad mount on the cpu block (id expect more compression in those springs) or that your radiator isn't so good.

Please respond to the suggestions made previously so I know what you've followed. A good thing to do now would be take the drive cage out and arrange as suggested.

Cheers

Here is my idle temps before it shuts off :(

The top of the case where the fans are blowing air out from the rad is boiling ??

And my rad I dont know if its any good as i go it with a ki i bought when i first started watercooling and cost £100 for the lot so could it be jus not up to standard and need a decent triple rad with decent fans??

Anyone out there think a single loop is not enough for a o/c quad 600 SLACR to 3.71 and 2x hd4890 not clocked?

cant be the cpu mount as i aint touched it and since i added the 2 hd4890's thats when the trouble and heat started

sorry also i dont know how to resize pics on here ?

A single loop can cool anything a dual loop can. I think the radiator is inadequate.

Resize before upload/use tinypic who do it for you
