2 speeding tickets in one week! what to expect?

All vans with exception to car derived vans are subjected to different speed limits to cars as follows. Motorway same as cars 70mph, dual carriageway 60mph not 70mph, single carriageway 50mph not 60mph

I thought that too.

Something to do with the possible variance in tyre diameter due to low/high tyre pressure and tolerance stacking in cable-driven speedometers IIRC.

That should only occur with brand new tyres. The more thread that wears, the smaller the rolling diameter becomes and so the speedo shows a faster speed compared to actual speed as the wear increases.

Well, I think I've got that the right way around!

nearly got caught out by this on an unofficial minibus test at uni, the guy testing me was lenient because I was trying to get round the slowest truck in the world in front of me and I'd just been doing 70 on the m25 ;)

Both should be eligible for speed awareness. They'll offer you a speed awareness course for one and a £100 fine and 3 pts for the other.

I expect I will carry on driving the same as I always have but be more vigilant in slowing down in the hot spots or if I see a speed camera just like every other road user :-)

if you got a 74 you probably read off 80 on your speedo

i went past one at 79 and got nothing, which probably got read at near enough 70 to pass through

i heard that if 70 was strictly enforced the country would grind to a halt as no one would have a license left

Meaning I was received a fixed penalty notice for driving in my personal car at 43mph in a 40 limit in 2007 in South Yorkshire.
No BS, no internet 'LULZ', just huge amounts of disbelief and frustration.

I was not offered a speed awareness course as I'd got a previous conviction in 1995.
If it wasn't for my personal circumstances at the time I would have taken it to court, but it would have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Hold on, what? You were denied a speed awareness course because of a previous convitction, 12 years prior, and before the speed awareness course was even conceived? You got proper busted.

Spot on although I'd wager 95% of transit drivers are oblivious to this!

I reckon it's the other way. Lots know about it but just fly around anyway. The number of Transits that go past me at 80-90 on dual carriageway shows that they have a total disregard generally for both car limits and van limits. :o

The average speed of a car on a free-flowing motorway is actually 85mph, according to the guys who ran the first speed awareness course that I attended.

So is the general consensus keeping in mind how for over the limit I was still 3points and a £60 fine for each one?

No, the general consensus is that you'll get 3 points for each offence and a £100 fine. Fines for speeding went up recently.

I doubt you'll get a speed awareness course offered for it as I believe the guidelines for that offer are that you're within 10% + 2mph of the posted limit, which you weren't in either case.

You might get unlucky and have them tie the two offences together and label you a habitual speeder and get the fine + points and have to go on some driver improvement course too, although I think this scenario is unlikely.
