20 seconds until the first beep - 40 seconds to boot, with fast SSD :/

Hey guys, I have a problem with my MSI P67a G45 Motherboard. It takes around 20 seconds after pressing the power button for anything to actually happen (the fans power up instantly etc, but nothing comes up on the screen) The first beep follows the 20 seconds of nothingness, then a further 20 seconds to boot to windows. I am unsure of whether this is a hardware issue? I've updated the bios to the latest (v1.18). This board is originally part of an overclocked bundle from OCUK, with core i5 2500k OC'd and 4GB of OC'd RAM.

I've got a Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD, which is pretty fast, so it's quite frustrating :/.

Thank's in advance for any help,

Danny

What PSU?
My HTPC does this, I think because it disagrees with the Tagan PSU in there. (Never did it with the Seasonic that was originally there, but I nicked that when one from another machine died)

Also, is this a new set of symptons or has it been there all along?

leezer3: PSU is a Corsair TX750M. It has been doing this for a few months, but only just had enough time to properly sort it out! :).

IronWarrior: Yes I see the BIOS, after the 20 seconds of nothing, all carries on as it should do :/.

Thank-you both for replying, your time is much appreciated.

My suspicion is it's definitely PSU related (Some boards and PSUs simply don't agree with each-other), but you'd need to source another one to test with.

Also, possibly a stupid question, but have you tried reverting to stock and seeing if it does it then?
Strange happenings can come of slightly unstable overclocks.

Oddly enough, I loaded up stock settings and that made it faster, 15 seconds (rather than 20) before any activity. I then loaded my OC'd profile, and that raised it back up to 20 seconds before activity! That is odd, do you think this means it's an overclocking issue? I still think it should be less than 15 seconds, but I maybe wrong.

In regards to the PSU, I'll arrange with one of my mates to test it on theres.

Sounds like you have the same issue as I do.

If I boot from my mech drive, no problems, if I boot from my SSD drive then there is 30% chance it will freeze and then two things will happen, 30 seconds later it will carry on into Windows or it be stuck there forever. Used to do it a lot in the first few weeks, had to format twice, many system restores, at one point I thought it was the USB hub collected to one of my monitors to my PC. Unplugged that and it was working again, but I don't think that's the cause since it still does it without it being plugged. The SSD drive is new and has no errors at all when testing.

But every so often still, it will freeze up after starting up and so forcing me to do a cold reboot.

I blame the Sandforce controller as there as it can't be nothing else.

But if you don't have the same problem and get it fixed, good job!

I had a similar issue with my Asus board. Turns out the reason was because I had a USB external hard drive plugged in, which for some reason takes ages to be detected.

It might be worth a try booting up without any USB devices connected to see if that helps.
