20 to old to go to uni?

No, there's no 'too old' but for some reason there's a stigma around people if you don't go to University as soon as you're able to.

I wouldn't have said so, a good mate of mine was ~22 when he started at uni, graduated at 26 and although he took a bit of friendly abuse for being the old man of our group it didn't make any real difference. There were people ranging from 17-60 in the class though. Most of the older students were more focused on work than the younger students but that obviously varies from person to person.

20 isn't old to go university though, once you are getting onto 25+ then you are a mature student but it still isn't that much of an issue apart from the fact your priorities might well be very different as you get older than joining university at 17/18/19.

Oh my course there are people in their late twenties, and two women who are in their forties.

You're never too old.

I get on better with the older students anyway, they tend to 'go out, drink themselves into the ground, and then not turn up for lectures' less than the younger ones. Hell, i'm 23 myself! :p

I just graduated yesterday, started the course when I was 23. I have family who have done courses in their late 30's early 40's. Never too old in my opinion but at the end of the day, it’s your decision.

Only if its obvious - if you are under 23 and dont look like you are 30 when you start your first year nobody will know how old you are until they ask you once you've already become friends etc.

I was 19 and everyone else was 18, it was fine.

I went when I was 18 and I was the youngest out of the people I knew by quite a way. Most people were 20/21 but a few were 26 28. So no there is no maximum age for uni. And a lot of unis guarantee a place in halls for first years

i went last september when i had turned 21 (august) and loads of people younger, my age, and older.

was a guy of 27 in halls, he was a LEGEND!! ha.

20 is not old at all.

So i quit college last year 4 months into course and have decided to start up again this September, i could stay there for up to 3 years studying but by the time i leave i would be 20. Would this be to old to go uni? Would i have to go to an open uni or could i still go to a usual one.

Oh and would i be allowed to stay in the halls of residence?

Cheers guys.

No, people aged 70 go to Uni! It's for everyone :)

I'm 19 and going to Uni but will be 20 after a month or 2 in Uni so its definitely not too old :). Theres plenty of people who take gap years and go at about the same age as me so all will be fine :D

I will be hopefully starting at uni next september and I am 28 ( will be 29 by then ) and I couldn't give a stuff what anybody thinks.

I would never let anything like age hold me back from doing anything, if you want to better yourself then go for it.

Added bonus that I don't look anything like I am nearly 30.
