20 years - a stroll down memory lane

I miss DiamondMark

Remember “Tom”? Someone else in Motors who was eventually exposed. Said he had a Z4 at 16, then numerous other BMWs. This was before super low APR rates, leases etc. They often seem to start with believable/semi believable claims, but get worse with time as they attract more attention.

I remember throwing in floor horse into photoshop threads for a while. I should revisit that in the next one :p

Oh and GIFs I created but forgot my mouse cursor moving about in some frames :D

What about the guy who Wiki quoted everything and sounded clever but eventually got found and and rage quit the forums? :D (edit, Castiel!).

Some other bits I’m remembering:

A member called “BNP Member”, and a thread about them after they joined
Kainz (was this the same guy as above?)
The GDZ/GDC experiment

What about the guy who Wiki quoted everything and sounded clever but eventually got found and and rage quit the forums? :D (edit, Castiel!).

I thought he was highly clever. Was he just copy-pasting?

EDIT: looking back he got into quite a nasty dispute with another member and was permabanned.

Now I'm old I genuinely think he was a visionary not a loon

The OP of that thread is possibly my favourite on this forum. Absolutely peak autism.

He also went back and deleted the content of all his OPs, save for the bracketing system one and one on web hosting.

Strangely enough, his bracketing system (as invented by him) is misconfigured in the OP of the webhosting thread, as such:

(I am asking this in the "General Discussion" forum [on "Overclockers UK"] as I cannot think of a better place to put this. [If there is {in fact} a better place, please move this thread]).

Where really, it should really thusly:

I am asking this in the "General Discussion" forum (on "Overclockers UK") as I cannot think of a better place to put this (if there is [in fact] a better place, please move this thread).

I don't know why this is. Maybe he was rushing or panicking at the fact that his webhosting service was about to run out.

With regard to him being a visionary, I often skip the content inside brackets myself because I feel it often breaks up the flow of a sentence. So maybe he was onto something,

Been floating around here since 1998 but only joined later. I remember the nukes and Foxes post count auction, which he always denies :D

DiamondMark? Oh, he's still about on here :D

I remember L-Plates, Cemeteray, Fruity etc :)

The people that couldn't understand why a 480x360 sig was not a great idea when people were still running displays that topped out at 1024x768, or the guy who had the star wars episode 1 animated gif that came to about 2mb (the fight between darth maul and someone else) when people were generally on 56k at best, the protests and exodus when we imposed the signature rules having got fed up of the mess...

Beaky and his funny threads, trying to keep up with the forum whilst rebuilding my Uncle's PC on 9/11, the advent of text messaging and the time when we got an influx of users who couldn't understand why making the attempt to post using actual words was important, especially when they were talking about technical details (and getting to the point where I wouldn't even attempt to help users whose posts were shorthand txt gibberish).

The forum jokes with people getting renamed at random, when Blue was the in thing and everyone seemed to be modifying their PC's to have a blue power light (and going down to Maplins to pay ~£3-5 each for them).

Meeting various people at the I series events around 2000 etc.

Not quite 20 years here, but I recognise quite a few of the things mentioned here which bring a smile to my face.

Some of the photoshop threads were hilarious. Angus Higgins definitely rubbed off on me ({}) as I use brackets way more than than anyone else I know.

I do feel a bit guilty as I've certainly got more from this forum than I've given.
