£2000 Build - Need Advice

threads give about 15-20% boost . as a rule more cores (physical) are better then having more logical cores.

why 8 core 8 thread intel can perform slightly better then 6 core 12 thread version . also generates less heat - least with intel

Intel 4 cores have lasted just fine last 8 years , and only now 4 core i7s are the norm for 1080p 60hz gameplay with recent titles .

as always, regardless of cores. speed always wins and IPC design.

Ryzen was a great chip, in theory if it could match intel's clock speed it would close the gap in 108p by least half. ZEN2 chips should help close down the gap , but if they shift to how ROME EYPC is made then that's already a vastly better design without having to touch core speed or IPC increase

Thanks for the help, folks. Opted in the end to go with more cores and stuck the i9 in there with the 1070Ti. Should steamroll his games at 1440p and the cores are more useful for productivity tasks all round over the GPU which is gaming only, mostly.
