2004 4.4 V8 Range Rover

Got one, love it.

Covered 6000 miles in mine so far, replaced coil pack and brake pipes.

Great car, engine is silly for the car unless LPG converted. The amount it will drink when it runs on petrol is borderline criminal worse than my V10 M5

The Rangie is about as aerodynamic as a house though, so with a petrol V8 it is hardly surprising! :p

I'd love one, so tempted by this but lack of funds http://ongarbridge.co.uk/eo62 ppk.htm

10k doesn't sound great for a 2004 though, probably about the going rate.

Keep looking at that, really tempted to replace the M3 with one in the new year but a £10k L322 has a really really old interior, and a £35k one has much newer gadgets which are quite nice, but will depreciate so quick you'll feel the air move as it goes past you.

Had one (a 4.2 supercharged) and absolutely loved it. I'd have another in a heartbeat if I could convince the mrs but there's no chance of that with her flat refusing to drive an automatic.

If you can stretch to it, try to move up to a 2006 as it will have the Jaguar engine and electronics that are much better than the stuff in a 2004 that is straight out of an E39 5-series.

^^ jaguar stuff was fitted from my05 :)

The bmw models have virtually unusable navigation by modern standards whereas the jag system is still actually fairly reasonable. Things like touch screen full post code, reasonable resolution even by today's standards, MP3, bluetooth support, visual 4x4 and suspension settings and things. All stuff you take for granted these days but with the price of a 2005 model being quite low it isn't worth putting up with a system which is borderline unusable when the jag system is such a jump.

True it didn't fully switch to jaguar running gear until 06, I was speaking in context of not bothering with a very early one with the old bmw user electronics though. It's really not worth it with the price of an 05 (or indeed newer) :)

Other than rust they are pretty solid actually.

I have a L322 TDV8 as a daily runner, I drive it everyday to work. It's supremely comfortable and just bloody great.

The air compressor if it fails can be rebuilt for not much, suspension can all be gotten aftermarket. There is a huge wealth of information on the forums, RR owners tend to be handy with a spanner so there is also a huge DIY scene. Great dealer diagnostics that you can have at home for cheap.

It's all great.

Love the cheeky DB9 in the corner!

Sounds about right for this time of year, if it's in good shape the price will probably go up the worse the weather gets, even more so if we see some some white stuff.

If you are considering lpg'ing it then the BMW 4.4 is more straightforward than the Jag 4.4 which requires a lube system fitting. Also I think the BMW engine water cools the alternator so worth checking that out. There aren't many 4.4 Jag cars about as they were soon replaced by the 4.2SC. Specialist forums will give you more details on this.

If you have any pics or links post them up as late 2004/early 2005 cars can have unusual specs (early 04 cars appearing with the Jag MOST systems and 05 cars still with the older BMW systems). I had a 54 plate TD6 with the BMW diesel engine, older GM gearbox but newer Jag interior and entertainment system.

The horsepower of 302bhp per MyCarCheck suggests that that is the Jag engine. However, AutoTrader suggests it's 295 (the BMW engine was 290)!

I think it's the Jag engine.

they handle like a tractor. which is what you expect they are supposed to be used in fields, etc. not on roads.

much better off with a bmw x5 for road use. handles 100 times better.

they are basically a status symbol. as a car they aren't that good at all.

Actually I’d - almost - say the reverse.

If you want a status symbol that isn’t much use as an off roader then the X5 is the one to have.

For what they are they actually handle very well given the sheer size and weight, the quality- inside especially- is leagues ahead of the X5 the ride is far better it’s a much better product with a considerable price hike over an X5 to reflect it.

I don’t fancy one as a daily driver - don’t like big 4x4’s anyway tbh - but, they are epic machines in their own right, so very very much more than an X5.
