Been having trouble with this over the last few days, when i turn the pc on sometimes the monitor will turn on fine. Other times however the screen will remain black, i then have to take out the dvi connector and plug it back in to get a picture. Even then its not guaranteed to work at the windows loading screen sometimes the screen will go black again and all the buttons on the front of the monitor seem to stop functioning, although i can still hear windows loading in the background.

This happens with 2 pc's on both video ports dvi and vga, im not even sure how to arange an rma with dell to get it replaced.

Im not sure what the procedure with dell is either, just give them a ring i spose, the number is on their site. Someone in africa will be able to help you out.

I had the same problem with my old hitachi, sounds like you 2005fpw is busted, damn shame, theyre a quality screen.

Just gave them a call and some guy is asking for my "service number" which according to him is on the back of the monitor, i don't see anything besides a big serial number. According to him the service number should be about 6 characters long starting with a letter.

If you have had the monitor for less that 28 days then your supplier is responsible to replace it if it is faulty, regardless of what they may tell you. If you can avoid it do not go through Dell, my first replcacment took 9 weeks to arrive (next day swapout my backside) and only after threats of legal action. I am now waiting for a refund that Dell agreed to pay me, they take the monitor leaving you without one or your money to buy another and say 7-9 days well it's been a month now and I'm preparing to take them to small claims court.

I was under the impression they took the monitor an left a new one in its place, seems to have happened like that for some people at least.

Yeah it can happen that way, it can also go badly wrong, as I said legally if you've not had the monitor for 28 days it's your suppliers responsibility to sort out a replacement, go that way if you can.

Had it since october, guess ill have to give dell a call, still dunno wtf this service number thing is that indian guy was blabbering about.

There is no service tag on monitors only the serial number, they will not have you on record if you didn't buy direct from Dell. You will therefore not be able to use the online faciliities to process your swapout and will have to stick with the phone. I ended up giving them the OCUK order number from the side of the box so they had some way of tracking the monitor. Unfortunately this lead to further problems such as them saying that as the monitor had been shipped to OCUK well before I got it I was only elligable for a refurb and not a new one despite me only having it for a couple of weeks. Then the replacement was shipped to OCUK and not me despite me giving them my address, and despite me telling them countless times that I have nothing to do with OCUK other than being a customer they still insist that I work for them.
