Even with the slipstream he was still 6 km/hr slower across than the start line than Kimi.

And he was right on Kimi's gearbox before entering the disputed corner anyway. So he would have had the same slipstream even if he didn't challenge him in that corner.

Without the slipstream? Who knows, possibly 10 or 15 km/hr slower. Doesn't really matter IMO. Fact is that LH gave the place back by lifting the throttle slightly. He then had ample time (it is a long straight!) to set himself up for the perfect outbraking move into Turn 1.

This is standard Formula racing.

Hmm... JRS tell me more about NASCAR :p :)

Visit NASCAR.com and Jayski for all your NASCAR news. And go here if you want info on how to watch it on-line.

Youll be back next week watching Monza like the rest of us...

:D

I'm not honestly certain, you know. I've thought about it before, and always come back. But this might have been the final straw. Even if McLaren appeal and win.

Christ what is so difficult to understand...he should have been nowhere near Kimi AFTER he ballsed up an opportunist overtake. The fact he was and then used the advantage you gain by being so close to another driver (slipstream!), to overtake Kimi, is plain enough to warrant an investigation. The result is a drive throuigh penalty and 25secs is a good alternative.

Indeed, he should have let him go past and counted to 3 until he accelerated again, because he clearly wasn't very close to Kimi before attempting to overtake the first time.

Thats what theyre saying, by getting the slipstream he got the advantage.
Im guessing it doesnt matter what the guys speed was to a certain degree, what matters is his acceleration because of the slipstream.

the problem with that is that slipstream isnt fixed and in current f1 being stuck in dirty air is more of a risk.

As soon as i saw it happen I was shouting at the TV for LH to slow and give the place back as I knew they would have him for gaining an advantage but he did slow down and give the place back so I honestly cant for the life of me see why the stewards would even look into it ?
It was also obvious he passed him at the next corner by out braking Kimmi and also Kimmi running wide so I cant see what advantage LH gained by the whole thing ?
For me they have just ruined one of the best races of the season.

Thought he had to pull over and wait for the entire field to pass before moving off at 10kph for the rest of the race.

Thats properly giving way.

;)

Actually there is the car - slipstream - dirty air.

I think Lewis was trying to avoid getting stuck in the dirty air and staying in the slipstream.

Is 6km/h a big enough difference to be yielding a position? Would Massa, kimi or LH be happy at a back marker being a whole 6km/h slower whilst trying to pass them?

I honestly am a bit indifferent to this decision tbh.

Its ridiculous tbh. Hami gained nothing through Bus Stop and beat Raik' on the brakes at the next corner. McLaren should win their appeal if they roll with it. Great race, shame about some moron stewards.

Be interesting to see what the Italian press think of it. They haven't been exactly complimentary of Raikkonen and Massa this year.

Surprisingly, they seem to have a hell of a lot of respect for Hamilton though.

Quite a ridiculous decision. A fantastic end to the race completely spoiled. Are they going to penalise Kimi for causing an avoidable collision, using the run off areas to gain an advantage and blocking (weaving across the track)?

You wouldnt believe how animated I was towards the end of that race. I have been in a good mood all afternoon. It was untarnished formula one racing. This, however, is beyond my tolerance of the sport. Where do I send my disdain to?

Obvious place is the FOM and the FIA
