on a side note does any1 know at what races maclaren/hamilton have had a penalty from the FIA? it must be a good %.

Malaysia - grid demotion for both Kovy and Hamilton due to driving slowly back to the pits on the racing line and ruining the final laps of other drivers.

France - grid penalty for Hamilton for his brainfade in Canada, then a further penalty for chicane-hopping.

And now this one. So penalties at three races this season, out of thirteen held so far. And on the occasions noted above, they were well deserved. This one wasn't though.

If Ferrari where a real racing team - without looking out for their own driver who didnt deserve anything better than 2nd - they should have spoken up against the penalty imo (I know its too much to expect but you can live in hope)

I cant think of any so blatant incident in the reverse to see how McLaren (or Williams in their years of dominance) acted, but I would like to think they would back the racing - as the only other affected driver was out of the race.

Frank Williams I seem to recall has spoken out about gaining points unfairly in the long distant past

I know what your saying Frank. I would like this too. But Ferrari (and F1 in general) as you well know is a business, theyre not going to defend their competitors if theyre in schtuk.

You go and ruin it by mentioning Shuey who could have easily killed himself and someone else in 94 and again in 97 (although 97 was less dangerous, there was only ever going to be one result)

Haha my point was how to stop a guy overtaking fairly, MS was used purely because he was the guy trying to pass. Sure when the positions where reversed he didn't play so fair :D

Personally I'd say 97 was more dangerous than 94. 94 damaged Damons car so he couldn't carry on. Villeneuves car was slowly getting worse and the damage it was doing to the tyres was huge. Goodyear estimated at best JV had one lap left in his fronts before one or both went bang. If you watch the in car as he comes down to parc ferme they are destroyed.

Its actions like that and Senna and prosts spats that have spawn the actions that are seen as acceptable today. They never came down hard enough and it's seen by new drivers as acceptable. Plus the cars are so safe they thing of nothing when cutting across the nose or brake testing another driver.

Because Prost didn't do that to him in '89, did he..

Ok, it wasn't at 150mph+, but it's still the same concept - take out the othe guy so you win, but make it look like a racing incident.

senna never made it look like anything else than what it was
and he admitted it he should never have raced again for what he did

lol
schumacher hit jvs sidepod and did very little damage at all
one lap left? right then lol why did he not pit then? the title was won
you have just made that up

Like I said before - magnanimity like that will lose you championships. Just ask Sir Stirling.....not that I suspect he regrets it even for a second.

Even if you gain the championship through complete stupidity and not through good racing?

For the sake of the sport it would be good thing - which everyone should be interested in surely!!

(Im not saying you are wrong though - but having a better sport is better for all companies involved. Might be a slight detriment - to Ferrari in this instance - in the short term, to gain in "sportsmanship" terms later)

.

hahahaha "he didnt play fair" understatement of the century?

Well why I initially thought 94 was more dangerous (for the other competitor) was that the benetton was literally airborne - at that point he had no control at all and anything could have happened

I do take your point about 97 though :)

Had a quick scan, don't think this has been posted yet - McLaren may withdraw appeal

Wouldn't surprise me if they do. The FIA very rarely backtrack once a decision has been made - no matter how bad it was.

I can understand if they do - but I think the longer its kept in the spotlight (ie this incident inparticular, the more likely they have to clear up the sport (however unlikely that is lol)

did mclaren say for the good of the sport we will sit out for 2 years due to the ferrari data that is all over our team?

Did Ferrari ask to sit out for two years after being idiotic enough to hire someone that GIVES AWAY company information?

edit - for the good of the sport

was ferrari the ones thrown out of the championship then?
only bernie pleading saved them but surely if your "good for the sport" idea is a good one then it applies to mclaren too?

You really have no clue. I suggest you re-watch jerez. I have it on dvd if you need a copy. Why exactly was JV losing seconds per lap after the collision if all that was damaged was the sidepod. You dont think that kind of whack unbalanced the car or caused the fronts to over heat in anyway? Watch the car as it comes down the pitlane and look at the sections of missing front tyre.

If he had've pitted there was a chance he wouldn't have won the title. As it was he finished only 2 seconds ahead of being out of the points. At the time he didn't know MS would be thrown out and a large piece of me thinks if JV had've crashed out they wouldn't have stripped MS.

watched the full race the other week
there was no damage to his tyres
when he comes into parc ferme the tyres are a mess due to picking up marbles on the in lap you really are making it up
goodyear source for your claims?
he only finished that far down as he slowed down to let the mclarens take him in inter team orders he had all the time in the world to pit after the incident
no idea why you think you can make something up and get away with it lol

Of course you watched it, thats why you came out with the comment on why he didnt pit. He slowed down because the car was shot.

You can see the areas of wear on the tyre. All the time in the world? What rubbish if they could have pitted him they would have.

Clearly your just trolling. You really think they would have risked the car and title if they didn't have too?

rubbish after the incident he was slow for 2/3 laps about 5 seconds of his pace and cost himself more time than a pitstop for tyres would have
he then picked his pace back up to within the second of what he was previously doing
off course once michael was out he eased off and let the mclarens pass and brought the car home with no need to stress it or push to the max he had plenty or time to pit if you have watched it you would know this
troll troll troll what a complete baby you are
his tyres in parc ferme are covered in melted rubber nothing else go watch your dvd his tyres are perfectly fine on the last lap not a thing wrong with them and thats a fact troll troll troll

in fact here you go - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RMX9NiBZd0

tyres falling apart lol
