2008 Chinese GP - Race 17/18

To be honest, I think Massa has made a brilliant run this season, Hamilton has improved over last season too.

I just hope who ever wins, wins it out there on the tarmac rather than by a stupid FIA decision (which ever way it goes)

ill 2nd that

I cant see Hamilton not winning the title, if he does lose it again thats a massive blow and I could see it going like it did for Montoya (just became less racy and more erratic trying to make things happen)...

At the end of the day he just needs to remain in touching distance to Massa (this year theres only 3 races where Massa scored decent points and Hamiltons been nowhere) which shouldnt be a massive issue...

For Massa I think he just needs to remain in contention on the track and Kimis around him - thats enough to put the grain of doubt into Hamiltons mind. If Massa tries a Hamilton and goes off it lets Lewis off the hook. I suspect Ferrari will be short-filling at least Kimi to ensure he gets pole and so can assist and control the race for Massa...

I think Chinas gonna be full of mind games and it looks like already LH is at a disadvantage with the drivers discussion - must be feeling quite alienated...

If Massa makes no ground in China, LH is a shoe-in, if he can learn to drive for percentages...

ps3ud0

Drivers discussion? Any linky P?

Well if Hamilton is being alienated, doesnt seem to be affecting his driving, hes P1. in FP1.1 by 0.4secs nearly.

Hmm. :D

doesnt that rule out massa since hes been given a win and an extra point already :p

admit it who got up to watch both practices :)

hamilton fastest again, only driver to break 1.35.

I may have missed it, but I haven't read anything in this or the Japanese thread ref the FIA talking of only one engine supplier for 2010/11/12?

It seems like pretty big news to me, is it a definite? I wonder what the likes of Mercedes think of it??

Apparently the FIA have officially invited tenders for engine and transmission supply, so I guess it must be happening?

Shocking I know. F1 isn't F1 with just a single engine.

Never in the history of F1 has there been such draconian rules put in place

They're also talking about having standard rear wings and suspension parts!

This will result in teams having no unique features on their cars with which they can dominate a race with.

Also I only just realised that in 2009 cars will allow the driver to adjust the angle of the front wing 2 times per lap. How crap is that? That is like A1GP levels of desperation.

Maybe F1 is being batterned down to weather the current economic storm?

People moan about how the best driver never wins because the cars are the star, well, now with a more level playing field, the driver will shine. Also we will hopefully see more manufacturers willing to join in, as it will be a lot cheaper to get involved and run competitive cars! Oh, and maybe even some close competative racing?!

If making these changes means we still have an F1 in 10 years time, then i am all up for it. Its a three year deal, maybe if things are looking up financially towards the end of this idea, F1 will evolve again and revert back on some of these things.

Ferrari are sand bagging, or McLaren have forgot to sand bag :D

Nobody's sandbagging. Hamilton is attempting to dominate/demoralise/humiliate Ferrari and all the other drivers (bearing in mind that the other drivers are speaking out against him).

This is how it was done before M. Schumacher arrived and its great to see Hamilton following the old ways. And this is the reason why Mansell for example, got pole, at Silverstone by around 2s - not because he needed to, but simply because he could. Senna was exactly the same.

lets hope he takes that speed into quali and the race

He will certainly take that speed into the race.

The problem for him though is making "racing decisions". He tends to be hot-headed and doesnt want to lose any ground on his main competitors (last year - Alonso, this year - Massa). When it comes to quick decision making, in the heat of the moment, his intinct is to go for the win or go off the track. We've seen this time and time again and he loses points because of it.

I also have to blame McLaren, in that they dont make his job easier by helping him out with the strategy. In fact, there have been some races where he has had to overcome a bad strategy laid out by his team. In Germany, for example, he had to drive like a man possessed to overcome McLaren's (poor) pit-stop strategy.

I doubt Hamilton can beat Massa at Brazil, so Hamilton has to do damage in China.

Hope you're right :D At the current pace LH should be able to stick it on pole...

I dont think Ferrari are sandbagging on purpose but I do think they will be closer to pole by the end of qualy (if Kimi isnt short filled to actually get Pole)

I cant see any point in other manufacturers joining if the engine is a standard unit /transmission and aero are all the same - manufacturers who arent already in there have to pay a team to be run and add the infrastructure which in the short term cant balance out against prize money (bigger field means less likely to win races, without taking into account in-experience of new teams losing places/points/ ie cash)

It would also mean less to the likes of Williams, Red Bull etc who may well spend money on 3rd party parts - but they also engineer core componants to try and differentiate themselves from the factory teams, if all the teams are going to be similarly equiped just with different liveries to distinguish them there is less point in going thru the bother of running a team

Not only that but the FIA cant even get reliable fuel rigs to work right (how frequently do we all see some kind of actual fault with a rig) how diabolical do you think the racing would be if they controlled the engines!!!

Further and further away from "the pinicle of motor-racing" if this goes through

I don't think Ferrari are sandbagging. It seems to me that McLaren seem to be able to get a setup on the car pretty much from the word go. Whether they have better simulators or their car is just easier to setup, who knows. But the Ferrari always seems to be a bit unstable until sometime usually through P3 when they get it right and it sticks for the rest of the weekend.

Unless it rains ;)
