2008 F1 Predictions

Who will show the biggest improvement?

Without a doubt, Honda. Well up there in 2006, and performed appallingly last season. If they get their act together, they may well repeat their 2006 feat of a race win.

Who do you think will struggle?

McLaren. The spying row and the loss of Alonso may well rock them, as Hamilton is still a fairly inexperienced driver.

Which driver are you looking forward to watching in a new seat?

Kovalainen at McLaren or Piquet Jr. at Renault.

What is your prediction for each of the teams?

Could write a 2,000 word essay on what I think the teams will do next year, but Ferrari to comfortably take the title, followed by BMW, McLaren, Honda, Renault, and Red Bull.

Your thoughts?

Kovalainen to partner Hamilton at McLaren. The two will be very close in pace, Hamilton stronger in the first half of the season, Kovalainen in the second. Hamilton will finish better of the two by ~10 points. Hamilton will challenge Raikkonen for the DWC.

Raikkonen will now assume first driver status at Ferrari. He will get all new parts first etc, although they will still race Massa for wins on track. By the mid point in the season Kimi will be far enough in front of Felipe for Ferrari to back him entirely.
Raikkonen will successfully defend his title.

Renault will start the season in the midfield, racing BMW and Red Bull, however they will improve to best of the rest by the mid point of the season. They will be competing for 5th backwards most races, 3rd/4th on days were Mc/Fer have reliability problems. Alonso will entirely outclass Piquet. Nelsinho will make several rookie errors in the first few races before finding his feet, however he will still not manage to save his drive and he will be kicked out at the end of the season.

Autoclave/Programmer

I remember seeing a 'scaled down' version of Hondas autoclave whilst in their factory... it was huge! When I think autoclave, I imagine desktop, as in our labs. Oh no!! :D

Also, I'm amazed no one has asked who the OP is working for, either, now he's back working for a team... ?

Am I the only one who expects Honda to struggle again this year? I think they'll improve from last year, usually qualifying in the top ten, but I can't see them anywhere near the podium. I don't think Ross Brawn has been there long enough to make a difference.
On the flipside, I think the TC ban will suit both Barrichello and Button, and their atrocious 2007 car might mean they've had more time to focus on 2008. I'd really like them to do well, but I think we'll have to wait til 2009.

Championship prediction - Raikkonen drivers, Ferrari constructors. And given my feelings about Ferrari, I'm really hoping I'm wrong.

Also at Redbull, 3 or 4 of us are leaving Lola [including CS||nuTs] and heading off to Redbull.:D

Programming and running the autoclaves and a bit of laminating.ooh read that as if you were asking me.

Well we have a strong incentive as it is,about £100 a point bonus or there abouts. Will put in some extra effort for you though :)

Cant wait for the new season to start.

Kimi to hopefully to defend his title. He needs to have a realiable car and get help from Massa. Its the same with Hamilton.

I can see Massa challenging for more race wins though. I hope Heikki has a great season too. It would be good to see if he manages a race win or 2.

Cant see Alonso challenging for the title. Renualt are not at the same level as Ferrari and McLaren. They will be battling with BMW.

BMW will have overall good pace to have a go at Ferrari and McLaren, but over the distance I think it will be a little too much for them.

Honda need to improve hugely. The addition of Ross Brawn will help, but he cant do all the work on his own. The hole team needs to work harder. The car needs to be basically quicker.

Redbull will have failures again like last year. Coulthard I think has passed it. Webber started great in F1, good quailifying pace but over the race it just doesnt work for him.

The other teams, cant really say much as I dont know a huge amount about them. There will be driver changes. Loads of retirements and driver mistakes.
