2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

I don't think the Aussies can take any comfort from getting 400 in the second innings.

England were not trying to save the runs, they were allowing some, with lots of close fielders, and so they could get the new batsman on strike.

As if i missed the morning session...!

Oh well, pleased we got them out and it didnt drag on and get to tense.

1-0 and bring on the 3rd test....

Still on for me 3-1... ever so slightly :p

That said, bit worried about the next few games, I think Pietersen is really struggling, could be looking at the next Test without Pietersen or Flintoff - not ideal..!

I'd say missing Pietersen would be far worse for us. Even while injured for example he's managed respectable scores from the bat and stayed in for long periods of times; e.g. the lull with Bopara in our second innings.

He clearly instills a confidance blow to any opponent he faces and it'd be a massive boost for the Aussies if he's not there in ten days time.

Flintoff's had a fantastic second innings, I'm not trying to take anything away from him, but the bowlers won the match through Australia's first innings.

Lee has said he wont be ready to play in their next warm up game (against Notts, I think), so would be going into the 3rd test without any cricket since his injury.

Let's not forget Anderson, eh? Yes Freddie lifts the team and got a 5-for, but Anderson's first innings bowling was superb, and his batting at the tail was inspirational. I think he really could mature into a decent all-rounder.

70 yrs of hurt finally over lol...about time England.

Well done to England for beating the Aussies at Lords...took their sweet time doing it as well. Have to admit from what i read on cricinfo...as i wasnt here for most of the test..was away on business...they played very well..excellent batting and bowling as well. Definitely outplayed the Aussies, who were quite frankly rubbish in the bowling, batting and fielding dept...only person who turned up to bat was Clarke who had a pretty decent 2nd innings but otherwise the rest of them were terrible...

Johnson was absolutely dire bowling wise, looking at his figures...thought Hauritz bowled well until he injured his finger but somehow made it back to bowl in the second innings.

Oh well good job by England...Filintoff i thought was superb in bowling 5 wickets...good send off for him from Lords as hes retiring at the end of this series.

Aussies really have to pick up their game, batting and bowling in the next test to have any chance of beating England. Hopefully Lee will be back as Aussies definitely need him and im still a bit mystified as to why Stuart Clark isnt bowling...i know hes been injured but am pretty sure he was bowling in the warm up game a few weeks ago..Siddle needs to be dropped i think for Clark, if hes fit that is.

Good win by England...enjoy it while you can...for 70 odd yrs you havent beaten the Aussies at Lords and they managed to do it today...why they didnt enforce the follow on is beyond me but if Aussies hadnt have lost those early wickets...i think England would have been in a dire mess.

Spawn...........

Yes??..im here:D

AS i said well done...England out played the Aussies...what you want me to do??..jump up for joy??...like hell that will happen:D.

Enjoy your victory...it took you 70 yrs to do it haha.

Still have my money on the Aussies to retain the Ashes though...

I will say this England got 2 very lucky wickets ie one no ball and then one that hit the ground...but thats cricket..sometimes umpires make bad calls and Aussies got 2 unlucky calls...still no reason for them to screw up the way they did.

It is quite obvious you are disappointed England won and any congratulations you proffer are done begrudgingly ;)

Actually DD im not all that disappointed so stop making assumptions as you evry well know what assumptions make you look like and god knows how many times thats been proved ;).

As far as im concerned England definitely deserved to win this with the way they batted and bowled...i would have sat here and laughed if the Aussies managed to get a draw or even beat England...not that it was going to happen ie the win..but i dont begrudge them the win...they played much much better than the Aussies and for that i commend them especially Flintoff who i thought was superb with the ball:).

You are slightly disappointed then? ;)

Yes a bit disappointed but not with England winning...more with the way the Aussies capitulated in the test...it was very un-Aussie like for them to collapse the way they did in the first innings...didnt expect much in the bowling dept as England are definitely stronger there.

But hopefully in the next test, the balance will be restored with England batters collapsing and their bowling suffering too:p....heard that KP and Flintoff may not be fit enough to play:D...good news that:D
