2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Hmm, once again the main English batsmen are being shown how it's done by those lower down the batting order.

Yeah they are showing a bit of pride, it's good to see :)

I think to be fair to our upper order batsmen, the bowling they faced was a lot more disciplined. Aussie bowling today is rather wayward because they perhaps expect to get the wickets too easily.

It is utterly disgusting that Broad can score 50 plus in a game where the top order were crap.

Even Swan is scoring some runs now.

200 up now, makes you think if only the top order had got some runs.

They batted Just like headless chickens.

I hope they leave Clark in the attack. These two aren't doing their reputations any damage at all.

a) the Aussies bowled better then

and

b) lower order players have nothing to lose, they have licence to play freely without fear because there is no expectation on them to do much.

(This doesn't detract from the fact that our batsmen did play badly though.)

It goes to show that if you stand in your crease and poke and prod at the ball, as Cooke, Bopara, Bell, and Collingwood have been guilty of, you are going to get out.

Swann and Broad have shown that if you put the Aussie bowlers under pressure by scoring runs, then they bowl crap as well.

I agree with you here.

But were you not advocating the dropping of Pieterson a few weeks ago. Well you got you wish albeit he is injured and look what has happened to our middle order.

Bell and Bopara are no where near the class of KP.

just feels like we've got some momentum back, however small. Hopefully will have put a few doubts back in the Aussie bowlers' minds.

No. I think Pieterson is our best batsman even when he doesn't get a big score, he inspires our other batsmen to do better, just by being at the other end.

And he discourages the bowlers by putting doubt into their minds.

Some good knocks this morning. Bit annoying how Broad got out, he repeated what England have done all match and that's not learn from their mistakes.

I still don't think that Australia will bat again but some of their bowling hasn't been great. There's also an element of England going to attack it as well.

Without Freddie and Pietersen it really is apparent that a good chunk of our side is filled with posh little toffs. Their shots are weaker for example. Broad hit a few shots and gave them some flight - with a bit more oompf, i.e. from a physically stronger batsman (like those present in the Aussie side) we'd have had a few sixes and reduced our chances of being caught near the boundary.

Fantastic spirit shown by the supporters coming out and filling the stadium as well; this match going by yesterday's form could probably have already been over.
