2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Don't speak too soon re Bell, he's only got 37 and could chuck his wicket in yet. After lunch is going to be a nervy time.

41. But I agree that he isn't convincing at all. I think it speaks for the lack of better candidates that the selectors felt they had to pick him again.

Hopefully he will continue to ride his luck and the bowling will give him the chance to get a decent score anyway.

Strauss caught from a nothing shot outside of off stump, pants.

Collingwood needs a good knock here, to try and make sure Trott doesn't come in under serious pressure.

Collingwood elevated to 4, does that speak of lack of confidence in Trott?
I think it'd be more that Colly can be very steady & settling to have as a partner. Stick Trott in there with Bell so soon after lunch, with Bell already looking nervy, and you're asking to lose both wickets cheaply. Get Colly in, have him calm things down a bit and hopefuly get Bell settled in.

Bit of a shame for Mr S, and a nice little catch by Mr H.

Seems to be a bit of a pattern throughout the series; England get our boys out LBW, and we get all your boys out with catches.

Bell, Colly, Trott & Freddie cannot honestly be described as the tail. It's not like the last test where we were relying on Broad to make runs in order to be competitive.

Obviously didn't detect the intended humour then!

I know I have a migrane right now but Ian Bell 50 - what is that all about?

A combination of a great batting track, some wayward bowling and Bell riding his luck on occasion? :p

If we're gonna put on a competitive 1st innings total we need someone to score 100, perhaps that will be Bell? He won't get a better opportunity than this.

From another forum:

Is it just me or does Bell always seem to be having a bit of trouble with this box? He's constantly fiddling with it. The odd cabinet reshuffle is one thing but it's getting close to masturbation out there!

 :D

The umpires haven't covered themselves with glory in this series :( I think more technology is the answer, in spite of what some purists think.

Wow the bad umpiring continues:eek:...oh well i guess there will be a few dubious calls when the Aussies get into bat...well if they can get some wickets and finish off England...
