2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Surely we will enforce the follow on here if we can? Recently we appear to have not been doing so, it'd be outrageous if we didn't here given the chance.
They be saying on Sky they wouldn't. Pitch is turning so I presume they mean England wouldn't want to have to bat last. If it were me, get the Aussies all out then extend the lead to 400 or so then put them in and unleash Swann.

It's a fair comment. I'd just be concerned about the potential of the weather giving us a few problems, coupled with not knowing how long to bat for if the time is running out!

It does make sense that if the pitch is degrading this badly, we wouldn't want to bat on it on day 4/5!

Sounds like we're all over them here!

Strauss has to enforce the follow on if it's available- weather will likely play a part in the final two days. The follow on gives us a chance, albeit a remote one, to finish the job in advance. And if we can't finish them second time, we can hope for a small run-chase in our second innings on a wicket that's had some moisture.

If they don't enforce, and we lose the final day or two, we'll have denied ourselves the Ashes.

I'd hate to be making that decision though.

Difficult to say, 4th innings average at the Oval is something like 190 so we could either stick them in again expecting to give them another shoeing or we could have a go at building a strong lead and then look to finish them off on Sunday afternoon & Monday.

Yep normally you'd be right. But with bad weather forecast, Sunday and Monday may not exist! If it were me, I'd put them in again, at least there's a chance of finishing this before weather forces the draw.

Australia's tail may make the decision for us though.

Exactly. Let the Aussies bowl last when the pitch, already turning for Swann, will be mental. :D

We are. Either that or a mix-up in the laundry. ;)

203 behind now so unless we get 3 wickets for 2 or less runs they'll avoid the follow on.
