2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

All the talk in the build up was how poor their attack is now and we've got the upper hand with hours etc.
So far the best 2 bowlers on show have been Hauritz & Hilfenhaus, considering they were written off before they came here and have barely bowled here before that's a sad indictment of England's finest.
There's no weaknesses in their batting either, even North and Haddin look rock soild.
We need to scrape a draw here now then kick Otis Gibson up the arse so that he passes that on to his pupils.

If this test is anything to go by then i don't think I will bother watching any of the rest of the series. I was really looking forward to this series but I don't think I will waste my evenings watching that bowling crap. The Aussies will really hammer them unless they get the bowling sorted big time. i have a funny feeling Harmy will be back very soon. Good old England 2nd innings collapse tomorrow anyone??

Well the weather might just save England lol...typical english summer with rain:(.

The fact that the Aussies now have a slight lead, which i expect them to increase tomorrow says it all really...thought the english bowlers were going to give them all sorts of problems but it seems like the Aussie batters have given them the most trouble...well the exception being that Hussey is so out of form its not even funny anymore.

Am surprised Harmison wasnt picked tbh...he gave the Aussies quite a few probs in the warm up match last week...Flintoff i thought would have got more wickets but hes been decidely average.

England should count themselves lucky that Brett Lee is out injured or else England could have been in a lot more trouble.

The bowling did look rather toothless didn't it? Anderson had a decent spell in the morning with the new ball but apart from that...

Having said all that, I did think most of our batsmen got themselves out pretty poorly. We had a lot of players getting in (plenty of 30s/40s and the three half centuries) and yet no one went onto make a big score. Seems to me that the Aussie batsmen have just been a bit more disciplined and realised it's a flat pitch and the big scores will come if they don't give their wickets away - Collingwood and KP in particular should have done the same and we would have been well over 500 by the end of the first innings.

Looks like this game is heading for a draw as England dont look like they are going to bowl the Aussies out and with the prospect of rain..i dont think there will be a result unless the Aussies declare then put england into bat and bowl them out for a low total.

Mind you the only good thing is that guy with the trumpet playing in the crowd somewhere...hes quite good :p.

Its all down to the pitch really, its lifeless, slow and doesn't have a lot of bounce, and hence doesn't suit harmy, which is why even though his great performance with the lions he wasn't picked imho. I think they'd be pretty silly not to put him in for lords. I also think lords will be a very different test altogether.

I just hope it rains and we can at least eek a draw out.

Tom.

Looks like theres no rain and yet England still cant bowl the Aussies out...North has his century...great knock and Haddin is well and truly on his way to his century as well...so thats 4 centurions in the Aussie batting line up...which says a lot about the English batters...not one of them got a century.

I cant see anything but a draw out of this unless the Aussies declare soon...they got a 200+ run lead now and i would reckon England are going for a draw here.

Lords may well be different but looking at the stats, the Aussies play very well on that ground there...one of the reasons why they gave the first test to Cardiff rather than Lords as they havent beaten the Aussies there for some time now.

Still expect the Aussies to retain the Ashes and they might just win this depending on their bowlers...if they can bowl england out for a paltry total...i expect the Aussies to get a result from Lords though.

And Haddin gets his test century and now the Aussies are taking the mick with a few sixes in there for good measure:p

Aussies highest score since 1934:eek:.

England bowlers are just getting decimated here by the Aussie batters....still got Mitchell Johnson who can hit the ball a fair bit...his best is 132 not out lol.

And England already down one wicket...oops make that 2 wickets:p...looks like the Aussies will be getting result with the way things are going...terrible batting by England already...looks like its the usual batting collapse.

Men against boys... we are just pants compared to the Aussies, we don't deserve a draw but it's looking a possiblity.

There is no doubt England have been poor this test so far, and the excitement/anticipation levels for me are nowhere near what they were in 2005.

Tomorrow I shall get up early, put on my Native American headdress and perform the rain dance with all fingers crossed. I fear if there is a full days play tomorrow we will lose...

Pathetic really relying on the weather because we aren't good enough..

IT'S JUST THE WAY PIETERSEN PLAYS!

On a serious note if we play more than 60 overs tomorrow it's good night to our one-day specialists-turned test team. :(
