2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Not a bad first innings...in fact a lot better than i thought England would get at some point but with the weak Aussie bowling i wasnt expecting England to be bowled out for a low-ish total.

Will be interesting to see how the Aussies fare in their batting against a better English bowling attack...if the wicket is turning like it has been then i expect the Aussies to be in a whole heap of trouble.

Game on!!!

Good stuff by England, getting 435 is a very good score and builds a good platform for the rest to build on. A new opening partnership for the Aussies as well so they might be feeling a bit nervous and not totally in-sync so need to hit them hard. Though England just don't have that great a bowling attack where you can really go after them. This current bowling lineup is very different to the Hoggard-Harmisson one of 2005, Hoggard providing the neat accuracy with swing with Harmisson the guy really providing the pace and bounce to rough them up.

The decision wasn't based on their general record at Lords but v the Aussies specifically.
We haven't beaten them there since 1934, P16 W0 L7 D9:(

With this weaker Aussie side though this represents a great chance of changing those figures. If anything it is showing weakness that you are will to change old traditions as you are afraid of their record. This Ashes just doesn't feel right with it not starting at Lords and to make matters worse they start the bloody thing in Wales, well at least it wasn't in Scotland I guess :p

Nice wicket by Flintoff...now only hope he breaks down with an injury:p:D.

I dont expect Ponting to stay there for very long as hes been struggling pretty much since they got here. But then hes world class so he might have a big innings...Aussies definitely need a big innings from someone and a big partnership if they are to have any chance.

:p

England really need some wickets. If they don't get anymore by the end of today it will mean a very tough day tomorrow. Monty sounds like he is really off form. Why pick someone not on form? I really don't get it.

Mm, wondering whether omitting Harmison might have been a mistake and whether he could have extracted something from this pitch, on-form Harmison -v- off-form Panesar. Tricky one..suppose Panesar might have a bigger part to play on the 4th/5th day for Aus's second innings (if they get one!)

*edit*

LOL at Cricinfo commentary

The crowd are officially wasted now. Several hours' drinking, and they're making a wonderful noise now, cheering and jeering for no reason whatsoever

Oh well guess i was wrong there:p...looks like hes found his form just in time...unlucky for England though.

Both Katich and Ponting making 50's...great partnership from those 2.

Also Pontings passed the 11k run mark so thats pretty awesome...got his sights set on Tendulkar but unless Sachin retires...it will be pretty difficult for Ponting to surpass him:p

Dear oh dear oh DEAR Ponting and Katich have both hit centuries...wow:eek: wasnt expecting that at all...looks like the plan to take the first test away from Lords is spectacularly blowing up in the ECBs face lol:p.

Seriously didnt think Aus would have it this easy...i really expected the English bowlers to make life difficult for the Aussie batters but they are just ripping apart the English bowling:eek:

Gone awfully quiet in here hasnt it??:p:D

Unless we get some quick wickets with the new ball, looks like it'll be a draw.

I dunno about ripping apart the English bowling Spawn, it was more a case of knocking the ball around because it wasn't doing anything. They only hit 8 boundaries each in their centuries!

LOL ok fair enough ripping is the wrong word but unless England get these 2 out and quickly tommorrow...they arent going to win the game...more chance of the Aussies winning it imho. But loolks like its going to be a draw by the sounds of it.

Aye, but unless England's batsman all get themselves out cheaply in the second innings, I can't see us losing this.

Having said that, you can never rule that out!
