2011 A level results day thread

GCSEs and A levels are a joke. You can do well in them with hardly any effort or revision as long as you have an average IQ or above.

Maybe for GCSEs and looking back on A-Levels they weren't that hard, but you are completely wrong. They are difficult, particularly if you choose to do decent subject ie sciences.

The grade boundaries for my physics one is quite high, usually it's about 65% for an A but it's 70%. I have worked out from coursework and the January exam that I have about 8-10 Ums to drop from the A grade boundary so that I can get an A overall. I am really bricking it but the maths grade boundaries are fairly lenient.

Good luck with your grades.

However i've always thought that an A should be more like 90%. I work in mechanical engineering and if you only get 70% of a job right then bits start falling off.

A pass should be no less than 60% rather than the 50% odd that it is now (am I right?). Only knowing half of something, but thinking you know a lot can be pretty dangerous.

Erm, what? What you do in school and what you do in a job is usually completely different. If you work in the media you don't keep going over Media theories do you? Same with things like engineering, in a job you don't do or need everything that you learn in school/Uni. Besides, you are subject to training in the field you do anyway.

Well I did two sciences and maths. As a matter of fact all my subjects were sciences and not arts. The only one that was pointless was buisness studies.

I'm speaking from personal experience. They are a joke. I ****ed around for 2 years and past them with ease, I promise you I did not revise. This is simply down to the fact I had no interest in doing them, it just got my parents off my back.

A-levels if you're dumb as **** = a slight challenge

A-levels if you're even remotely intelligent = walk in the park

Maybe not Everyone is naturally as clever as you are ? Get over yourself.

Your A-level grades get taken into serious consideration even if you're applying for a job with a masters, it's the last form of education where everyone in the country is on a level playing field so employers put a lot of weighting into it.

As well as that there's the obvious fact that conditional offers from top universities will be AAA

Because without the right grades, I cannot get to where I want to be. I want to study medicine. I NEED 3 A grades at A Level at least. AS grades are less important, but my school will only predict me an A at A Level if I get an A at AS level. Therefore I need an A chemistry, which was really hard. I just hope I got my A.

So, in my case, my grades determine whether I have the opportunity to attempt to reach ideal career.

as i said, it's a means to an end, once you've achieved that end (or not) they're largely redundant. once you've done a masters I'm not sure how much employers are interested in whether you've got a B or A at a-level english lit because you've got a masters degree in your field so you aren't likely to have flunked your chemistry

You'll all be fine, good luck to all getting results. Looking back at it 3 years ago (time has flown by)... not so bad. Memories... xD.
