2011 A level results day thread

Ah I remember getting my results - the IB does it all online so you have to click the button to show your results. At the time I didn't want to click it, as ignorance was bliss :p

I'm sure all here have done well. Good luck for the results!

Reaper - I remember last year looking at a foundation Maths GCSE paper and I swear to God one of the questions was what time does this clock show!

lol, talk about breaking them in gently.

however, since they adjust grade boundaries for papers depending on how hard the paper is, it wouldnt have made much of a difference in the grand scheme of things

And they gauge how hard the paper is by means of the marks they get - so say if 80% of people sitting an exam did as well as the 10% who got A*s on the same exam last time they would only get something like a B between them. Examinations are a rubbish idea whatever way you cut it.

Good luck to all those who have taken their exams.

My A level year was 1997 and I was in Spain when the results were out. I remember my dad having one of those ancient laptops with only a b&w screen and hooking it up to a very expensive dial-up connection. Being a teacher at the school where I took my exams, he somehow managed to access all of the grades and told me that I got C in maths, C in physics and D in music, which was the truth. Just impressive how he did it.

Btw, when did it change so that 6th formers now have to take 4 AS levels then knock it down to 3 A levels in the upper 6th?

Good luck to everyone getting there results over the next couple of days. All I would say is for those who dont achieve what they need/wanted its not the end of the world, just do them again :).

Again good luck everyone I can remember my last year in uni been to petrified to click the show button for my results. In the end I got a 2:2 in law, not fantastic but not to bad either so it sits proudly on my wall :)

I'm not that scared for mine. Mistake on my college website meant it updates early so found out I got an A* in ICT a C in Biology and an E in Chemistry.

UCLAN for Multimedia Development here I come.

Good luck everyone else with theres.

no one's drunk? I thought that was the standard solution to pre-result nervousness. Heavy drinking to forget, and then the next day you're sufficiently concerned about your headache that results seem less important.

Nonetheless, best of luck.

Although it was always known as IT back in our days, congrats buddy with the A* in ICT :-D

Even right now as I brick it waiting for exam results that I'm extremely unsure of, exams are still better than coursework. :p

Perhaps, but i wouldn't say that exams are better than having a good teacher and... oh i don't know, asking them how well you're doing?

In an ideal world that'd be a great system. I think you'd struggle to come up with such a system that works around the inherent inability to find a large number of good teachers who are able to judge their pupils in a way such that those observations by the teacher can be reliably and fairly be compared with those made by the rest of the teachers.

You might be right, in fact I do remember hearing about a school that operated a similar system (I think it managed to get some students into university by showing examples of their work and as you implied some kind of progress report). Still, I'm unconvinced it would work on say a national scale...

Anyway, partly back on topic, partly to mask my frankly pathetic debating skills... I just checked track and my insurance (QMUL) is marked as unconditional.

Woke up to a text from my firm choice saying I had got in. Genuinely surprised, was expecting to have to go through clearing. :D

Good luck to everybody else.
