This is why I added the 'at the time' clause to my view, as its quite clear that people change over time.
Schumacher is a good example. The public image of him that I got when he was at Beneton and then Ferrari winning titles was one of, quite frankly, a bit of a ruthless ****. I never liked him and I don't think many of the drivers did either.
But then this time around he has come across as a completely changed man. He seems really likeable and much more laid back. Could you imagine the Ferrari Schumacher doing the whole Stig thing on Top Gear, for example? But then on the flip side, he isn't showing the same ruthless characteristics on track either...
