2012 predictions

I think he did a GP2 race and came last - though don't know the circumstances

I can't believe that he came last based on pure pace alone. Someone who is as prodigiously talented as he is never likely to come last in any race, unless something goes badly wrong or if he is at a disadvantage.

In terms of natural talent, this guy would rank fairly highly. Hamilton and Kimi also rank high in this area.

Firstly I'm not disagreeing with you, I just don't even know what it means?

Natural talent?

How do you define whether one driver rates higher in it than another? For me it's become a meaningless toss away word that people think means something when it doesn't.

To me it sounds like you have the talent from birth but don't have to work at it. I hear it a lot about ronnie osullivan. Clearly it's not the case because he doesn't work hard enough and loses a lot. They say he had more natural talent than say Hendry. I see if often used as an excuse or fallback when someone never achieved their potential for one reason or another. I never understand it or why it's even a factor, surely all the top drivers had huge natural talent?

Webber has been completely broken (mentally). It would take a VERY strong man to come back and start competing with Vettel, after Vettel beat him so badly the year before.

Perhaps someone can refresh my memory, but after a driver has taken such a beating, I donot recall him ever coming back from it.

I think the closest thing I can thing of is when Massa got beat by Kimi in 2008, then Massa beat Kimi (up until the accident) in 2009. But even then, Kimi never beat Massa by such a large margin.

Do you still honestly think that Webber is mentally broken?

Do you honestly believe that a 42 year old man can perform at the same level as when he was in his late 20s/early 30s?

MSc is no longer the same driver as he was during his record breaking seasons. Even if he had the best car, I feel Rosberg would be the more likely to win the title.

I'm using the last 2 seasons the basis for my reasoning:

2010
Rosberg 142 pts
MSc 72 pts

2011
Rosberg 75 pts
MSc 70 pts

'nuff said.
doesnt seem that way

It would certainly be an exceptional achievement, but I hold the guy in very high regard.
I actually think that he is ahead of MSc's "achievement curve" and based on that it is quite possible that in Vettel, we are looking at the most complete driver of all time (in the making).

Only time will tell, though.

still hold this opinion?

Weren't you the man telling us Merc would be winning races and getting podiums?

no i said they would probably be not far behind mclaren and i said the odds on rbr winning 3 championships in a row is uber low because only 2 teams had ever done that

We need races each weekend to keep people busy. It seems arknor has got bored with nothing to talk about so has felt the need to trawl back through hundreds of completely speculative prediction posts from almost everyone in here, pick out just mine, and then from his Hindsight Horse try and laugh at me for getting them wrong.

Anyone would think he had some stupid personal issue with me or something? :D

still hold this opinion?

Definitely.

He beat Hamilton in the first race of the season, in a slower car.
He was hounding Hamilton again in the last race, until he made his error.

For me, only Alonso is currently a better driver than Vettel.

At age 24, Alonso, nor MSc were as good.

Vettel is definitely ahead of the curve, compared with MSc and Alonso and these 2 drivers have basically been the standard since 1994 (ie. the last 18 years).

He beat Hamilton in the first race of the season, in a slower car.

Only because he lucked into it due to the timing of the safety car. He drove a good race in Australia but crediting his beating Hamilton to driver skill is nonsense.

He was hounding Hamilton again in the last race, until he made his error.

Quite.
