2013 FA Community Shield - Manchester United v Wigan Athletic - Sunday 11th August ** spoilers **

Quite a dull game, but the Community Shield is just a glorified friendly.

Wigan had a surprising amount of possession mind, but did literally nothing with it and looked totally out classed.

There wasn't too much to take from the Manchester United performance, never really got going or had to really push themselves. Zaha looked lively & I thought Giggs and Evra had a good game. Welbeck looked ok, Van Persie his usual lively self.

Wigan had one shot! None on target!.

There's a surprise, Loki posts in a football thread not to talk about his own teams success but to attack Liverpool... again.

No idea what the ****'s wrong with him but I've never seen anyone remotely as bitter. He's got serious issues.

Do you honestly think Anderson will ever be consistant enough to play for Utd, given how long he has already been there?

He's proven he is good enough by still being at the club. He's had 4 major knee injuries in his time with us, two as a direct result of rushing back because other players were injured and we were short, but he never gets any credit for that.

He came on the pitch today and absolutely ran the show when it came to linking play and put the performances of other players tasked with a similar job (Welbeck and Cleverley) to shame. He's also been excellent in pre-season.

If he's fit then he's good enough. The question marks are whether he can stay fit enough, long enough and I'm not so sure. But he's only 25, and for me is worth keeping around because, as we saw today, he can offer something very different to other players we have. He's our second best CM until we sign someone (hopefully.)

After the problems the club has had this summer signing CM's , Im not sure that really counts for much (any "body" is better than nothing, especially how little Anderson has played over the last two seasons)

Anderson should be better than Cleverley given that he is two years older than him, even without the years of experience he has in the same team over TC (and even then it was ten minutes vs for the most part tiring legs)

As I said before he can offer something......at a Championship/ low EPL level, not really the level Utd are after however.

Im still not sure why you think this season will be any different from the last 4 or 5 to be honest.

Age isn't really the best way to judge things. Some players are just better than other players.

What a load of nonsense. Anderson is easily good enough to start regularly for any team outside of the top 4/5 in the Premier League, and, if he can finally get over those injury problems, then he would get even better.

Because you have to hope. It's not his performances that have been the issues, it's the consistency due to injury.

Anderson never looks good enough for United when we play against decent opposition. His vision and willingness to take on tricky passes is great but his execution is poor. Its not just his fitness but his decision making. He likes to drive and meander forward at the expense of positioning and shape.

He always looks his best against low class or tired opposition where he has a little bit more time and space to work in.

Now Adnan Januzaj looks like he is going to be immense. Pretty strong on the ball and built like a whippet at the moment so he should only get better. His passing, movement and control is immense. I am not surprised that Barca and co have been looking at him.

I just hope we nail him down to a long term contract soon.

Well didn't Wigan have like one shot? So can't exactly rate De Gea too high if he ad nothing to do :p

You also can't rate a keeper who let 66% of shots at him, in the net though can you? If a keeper didn't make any mistakes you can't mark him down.

I sort of agree, except Anderson is usually the one back making tackles outside our box because he, unlike someone like Cleverley (who actually lets players run into our box and doesn't track if they're within 30 yards of goal) is willing to put his foot in, get back and make a tackle.

We've also played with a lack of movement ahead of him for a number of years now excluding Hernandez. The argument is that he should be more conservative and not play those passes, which he can play, he just needs better movement from the players in front of him, something which is quite widespread - we simply don't move, we're lazy, every single attacking throw-in will tell you this.

He's capable on the ball but not physically strong, though hopefully that will come in time. Looked brilliant in the reserves last year, hopefully he can avoid the injuries that have plagued Will Keane and Davide Petrucci after brilliant reserve seasons.
