We look solid enough and have been the better side offensively. I've been watching Fletcher and most of the match he's been quite far forward, neither he or Herrera are playing a specialised defensive midfield role, so we could certainly slot a proper box to box player in there. Fletcher hasn't been too bad though to be fair.

Pretty steady stuff though, all in all. Inter are just sitting back and not doing much.

We win on pens, nice. :p

Not a great game, Blackett, Zaha and finally Shaw all looked really good (of the young players). Shaw is seriously rapid.

The teams:

Man Utd: De Gea; M Keane, Jones, Evans; Valencia, Herrera, Fletcher, Young; Mata; Rooney, Welbeck

Real Madrid: Casillas; Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Nacho, Carvajal; Illarra, Alonso, Modric; Bale, Isco

Fletcher in midfield then!

Good first half from us. The players are playing very well as a unit, which is great to see. They look like a team again.

What's letting us down is individual quality, Valencia's final ball is absolutely woeful. Fletcher has done very well.

I did laugh when he was basically stood still with the fullback about 3ft infront of him, and he blasted it at him on the floor, fell straight back to him and he did exactly the same thing again.

Even late in the half from a corner or freekick, the ball came to Valencia, he was just inside your half with the nearest Real player 25 yards away, he waited, and waited and ended up passing backwards when he had 5-6 options to pass forwards safely and easily. So many times he'd run a bit down the right wing... up till the fullback then do a Walcott, stop, turn around and pass backwards. Unwilling to even try to beat the fullback.

He had one season in which about 4 of his awful shots deflected in, scored 3 others(one 99% certainly a cross which he buried in the net). He was actually crap that season and every one since.

Yeah, that's all he does, blasts it at the full back, passes it backwards or loses the ball. :(

I think Cuadrado in his place would be a very shrewd signing. Can do the defensive work and is far, far better going forward.

FT, 3-1. What a great performance, especially considering we switched half the team. Could have had 2 or 3 more with a better final ball, too. The young defenders all did well except Keane conceding the penalty (which wasn't that bad as Bale is a class player).

Cleverley and Valencia were both poor though.

101 Great Goals is quoting mail on sunday

I think he's still on holiday, so...

Blast, went to go make some scran and missed the 3rd goal. Any good?

Yeah, Kagawa with a nice ball/cross towards the far post and Hernandez headed it in.
