2014 Chilli Growers Thread

That looks amazing Stan. Well done on the scotch bonnets and indeed the home-made jerk sauce :) I'm actually quite jealous of your chillies. They're so healthy. Mine aren't anywhere near that size and I'm wondering if I'll see any fruit this year from any of them :(

With all the talk of hot chillis, I feel my bell peppers may feel left out so I've taken a photo just to show they're doing fine as well. Not sure if they'll get much bigger as growth seems to have slowed (biggest one is about the size of a tennis ball). I think I'll put these in a bigger pot next year and see if I can get a bit more growth.

I posted a link to the recipe I used later in that thread but here it is again: http://www.food.com/recipe/authentic-jamaican-jerk-sauce-124184. The only change I made to it was to add a tablespoon of good rum.
You basically just bung everything in a food processor and blitz it until you get a sort of grainy mess. I actually pre-ground the allspice berries in a smaller chopper as my big food processor is past it's best and doesn't cope very well with anything that hard.

Dead simple but delicious.

Had 10 ripe Habaneros and 3 ripe Nagas as well as a few Cayennes so I've made some sauce. Didn't really have a recipe so just bunged in what I thought might work :p

Carrot, Pineapple, Mango and Habanero sauce:

Seems to be not too bad. I can taste the chillies and it has a good heat but the pineapple takes over a little. I might cut down on the pineapple a touch next time; although I'll leave it a few days for the flavours to develop and see how it tastes when it's a bit more mature.

Should be good on grilled meats and could probably be used in a marinade. Might even be good on cheese. Will have to do some taste testing once it's matured.

The Window of Scotch Bonnets, each one has about 20-30 buds at the moment with exception to the smallest one

My first AJI lol... so small :D I let the AJI plants get too tall and lanky so very few flowers at the moment and I've just snapped about 1/2 a foot off them now to try and prompt some late growth

Latest photo of my Scotch Bonnet plant. Now at 5'4" from top of soil (6' from ground). 30+ chillies on it at various stages of development.

The beast over my right shoulder is the Habanero.

Going to get myself one of those giant pots and try make a bush myself. I have one but I cut when it wasn't very tall so it's short and stumpy.

Link below with a few pictures of mine, needless to say I have far too many, 39 chilli plants to be exact, along with 8 tomato plants, 4 of which are monstrously big.

Majority are covered in flowers and fruit, some are still being stubborn, mainly the smaller ones. Any questions regarding any of the plants just ask, I haven't taken pictures of them all up close, too much work!
My Big sun habanero, and paper lantern are insane, I can't even count how many flowers they have.

A few things I've learnt this year:

Don't plant so many seeds, nearly all of mine germinated.
Naga Morich indian strain are surprisingly easy to grow as are paper lantern and habs. Bhut jolokia are sloooow to grow upwards but bush out like CRAZY.
Trinidad moruga scorpians are a battle, germinate well and grow steadily but I'm forever fighting to keep them happy, with them constantly losing leaf colour (going pale) for no apparent reason.
Cheyenne are a doddle to grow but bush outwards like mad and need lots of support.
Twilights are not tough but mine went spindly, not sure if thats just how they are.
Zimbabwe black are stunning, purple flowers and deep purple/black chillies, ornamental and edible.
