2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers 11/15 October *** Spoilers ***

Better than Carrick, Lampard, cleverly and is also pretty clutch. Dunno who else you want, maybe in a 442 I wouldn't want him

Anything over giving the ball away constantly, there was a stat from the forst half, Carrick had 51 passes with 48 completed.

Would have loved to have seen Gerrards, I lost count of how many times he gave the ball away tonight.

Lampard I agree with, he's gash.

Probably due to him constantly passing backward or sidewards.

16 year old Harry Wilson, who's not even played for Liverpool's under-21/reserve side, let alone our first team, has made his debut for the senior Wales team tonight. I can only think this has happened to prevent him from choosing to play for England in a few years time.

Giving a 16 year old that's not played a meaningful game in his life his International debut just to prevent him from playing for another country is great way of keeping his feet on the ground and continuing his development :/

As I heard somebody else suggest (regarding the young Utd player), players should have to select which International side they wish to play for as soon as they sign their first pro contract or else this sort of thing will go from bad to worse.

Manchester United have run away with the Premier League this season and the fans (and curiously, Micah Richards) have been singing the name of England and former Spurs man Michael Carrick.

Squawka Football provided this brilliant graphic, showing Michael Carrick leaves Spaniards in his wake in the field of forward passing.

Aged 31, Carrick’s career seems to be peaking this season.

He’ll be looking to emulate the longevity that Giggs and Scholes have shown under Sir Alex Ferguson.

We're talking about this game and I bet he didn't have the most completed passes last season.

What? Even though he was passing sideways all the time, pull the other one.

He had a shocker, he's had a shocker for the last god knows how many years for England, he'll get away with it tonight again becasue of the goal but people that can see beyond the Stevie Gerrard lah crap can see he's past his best.

I see you've managed to confuse yourself faster than usual.

Yeah I'm confused with how you can think he had a good game?

He was shocking. I'm yet to see you disprove that apart from saying Carrick was worse

Whether he had a bad game or not, he still popped up with a goal that secured the win. And that's why players like Gerrard will always be given more leeway than the likes of Carrick. One can win you a match, whether he's having a bad game or not, the other can't.

Gerrard's a big game player (our best player in the past 2 major tournaments (yes I know that doesn't say much)) and to suggest not to take him to the WC is madness.

I'd take him over Lampard, I just don't think he should be a guaranteed starter anymore.

Oh there is no doubt we take Gerrard, He is a top class player. That's why he was disappointing this game - he wasn't that top class for the majority of the match.

Best performance I've seen from England in a long time. They played with real verve and pace. Pity the cutting edge still wasn't there.

No player should be a guaranteed starter but the lack of alternatives makes it easy to pick him.

The captain is.

The lack of options isn't good but he's had enough time to blood younger midfielders, like someone mentioned earlier, Henderson should have probably been called up instead of Sterling. I just don't think we should rely on the likes of Gerrard and Lampard next summer.

You think Hodgson's the sort of manager that's going to blood youngsters when he's got the likes of Gerrard, Lampard and Carrick around? Wilshere, our one outstanding prospect, seems to have fallen down the pecking order under Hodgson. The only time a youngster is going to get a look in is when there's little or no other choice.

As for Henderson. While he's not getting a look in as a CM for us, I can't see how he's going to get a chance for England there.

The Gerrard and Carrick partnership works. It's not perfect but it works. Lampard and Gerrard does not, as they simply cancel each other out.

Put it this way:
would you rather have Cleverly in the midfield instead of Gerrard? Henderson maybe, but I have not seen enough of him to really know for sure. And Wilshire in my opinion is best as a back-up option for Rooney in a CAM position, as he isn't as good defensively in the midfield.

I'm not saying they should have replaced them immediately, Hodgeson started off well and seemed to be phasing the old players out and bringing the younger players through but then reverted back to Gerrard/Lampard as the tried and trusted.

He has had plenty of opportunity to bring the likes of Carrick/Henderson/Wilshere/Barkley/Handerson etc and to see how they work together, the numerous meaningless friendlies were perfect opportunities but it was the same old dross again.

I thought Henderson had been in good form for Liverpool this season?

Gerrard needs to have more freedom, when he is asked to track back it just takes away from the best part of his game which is going forward. He doesn't have the legs to do the box to box role any more and should just bench Welbeck and that would give gerrard more freedom which gets the best out of him
