ok go to a footie pitch with mates, stand 25 yards out with your back to goal, throw ball in the air and try to overhead kick it into the "open goal"
easy isnt it![]()
Yes.
I really don't understand that argument, especially from someone that "gets" and plays football like yourself. Like any goal, there is an element of fortune but surely all that matters is that in that moment he decided to try something ridiculous and pulled it off. 99% of players wouldn't have even had the thought enter their heads.
That's the bit I don't deny. It was a 'proper' effort on goal and he did intend to score so I won't take that away from him at all. It's a much better goal than Rooney's because he got perfect connection on it and he's a lot further out.
I still don't think it's the blinding goal that some made out though. The element of fortune in this is considerably higher than most others.
He did exactly what he intended to with the chest and volley goal. That's why I'd say that was better (and more technically demanding than just throwing yourself at a bouncing ball).
Opinions are like bumholes...

PS I think Rooney's goal where he was arguing with the ref, smashed it into the goal on the volley and then argued a bit more (Newcastle?) was a better goal than his overhead kick.
