2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying/International Friendlies 14 November *** Spoilers ***

ok go to a footie pitch with mates, stand 25 yards out with your back to goal, throw ball in the air and try to overhead kick it into the "open goal"

easy isnt it ;)

Yes.

I really don't understand that argument, especially from someone that "gets" and plays football like yourself. Like any goal, there is an element of fortune but surely all that matters is that in that moment he decided to try something ridiculous and pulled it off. 99% of players wouldn't have even had the thought enter their heads.

That's the bit I don't deny. It was a 'proper' effort on goal and he did intend to score so I won't take that away from him at all. It's a much better goal than Rooney's because he got perfect connection on it and he's a lot further out.

I still don't think it's the blinding goal that some made out though. The element of fortune in this is considerably higher than most others.

He did exactly what he intended to with the chest and volley goal. That's why I'd say that was better (and more technically demanding than just throwing yourself at a bouncing ball).

Opinions are like bumholes... :)

PS I think Rooney's goal where he was arguing with the ref, smashed it into the goal on the volley and then argued a bit more (Newcastle?) was a better goal than his overhead kick.

LOL couldn't wait to come in here and see the "oh, it wasn't that good  " brigade :D

Funny how you don't see any of the players actually on the pitch saying that. Or the managers. They seemed to think it was one of the greatest goals they had ever seen. But what do they know...

I don't know if you can tell but it's really, really bugging me now. He's an atrocious player for England and has been for ages now. 100th cap my ass.

Best player at the Euros for you, got an assist last night, subbed off and england fell to pieces.

Atrocious player, possibly the worst to pull on an england shirt

Anyone can swing a ball in. Except Downing.

He was **** throughout the Euros and is devaluing the captaincy at every fumble, miss-step, untracked run and bad pass.

Serious note, name me one player that has performed for england on a regular basis in the past 10 years.

Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry have never disgraced themselves in an England shirt.

I very much dislike Liverpool but Gerrard was easily England's best player at the Euros. Put some delightful crosses in game after game (except Italy where we just rolled over) - Gilly just never drops it once he's got hate for a player/team/person, his mind's stuck and it won't ever change.

How Ashley Cole didn't get that 10 year award is beyond me. He's been excellent all the way through.

Gerrard's England career is 4 or 5 out of 10 at best.

Gerrard himself gave it a 6/10 so he's not really arguing much himself. I agree for a while he was pretty damn awful in an England shirt but turned up when the shirt was a Liverpool one, but this year he's been superb.

Say what? ;)

I've seen that goal so many times, its right up there with one of my favourites, he made the defenders look silly. As for the goals last night, just pure genius. Everything in that last goal from him positioning himself and slightly backing away from Hart anticipating the clearance and then having the audacity to go for goal from there, the technique and accuracy, just wow. :) Messi would not have gone for that, he isn't that kind of player imo, Ronaldo may have done. I'm gutted I missed the goal live and saw it on the highlights later on.

Looks like he is a real prospect for sure.

I just hope quotes attributed to him /his agent arent true already wanting 50k a week (or its "just" his agent wanting a pay day).

From reports he is "only" on 2k a week + apps bonuses, so obviously that needs to come up somewhat - but I just hope he isnt getting too big for his boots after not even 1/2 season as a regular player.

If reports are completely false of course, thats something else entirely.
He Tweeted to say he didn't know where those numbers had come from but later deleted it. Wouldn't be surprised if his Agent's making his mind up for him but it would be hard to argue against him getting that much when we've got players like Downing (who he's keeping out of the team) and Cole earning £60-90,000.

Well as long as he didnt originally say them, that gives me hope he will stay level headed for a while longer which is very good news.

Whether or not he is keeping those much older players out of the team or not, teen-agers shouldnt be offered amounts like that imo (unless a good proportion goes into a seperate savings account for years to come), just think its too much temptation for a youngster

He isn't worth 50 grand a week..regardless of what other players are on. The reported 20 grand we have put on the table is more than enough for a 17yr old. To earn more he has to develop an "end product" for me, either assists or goals.

You also have the problem of future contracts and other young players wanting the same amounts.

Needs to be kept as low as possible.
