2014 IndyCar / Mazda Road to Indy season

I gave up after an hour and a half for the last one to start. :p

To be fair they can't really run an event when there are lightning strikes and literal rivers forming across the track :p did you not catch any of the re-runs? It's probably been put on youtube as well.

2014 Verizon Indycar Series Round 4 of 18: Grand Prix of Indianapolis

6Efe6rI.jpg

Venue: Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Speedway, IN
Track length: 2.439 miles
Race length: 82 laps (200 miles)
Lap record: 1:09.6558 (Scott Dixon, Dallara IR12-Honda, 2014)

Overview: The infield road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened in 2000 to host Formula 1, with races continuing until 2007. MotoGP and Grand-Am (now USCC) still hold events here. In late 2013, the course was modified in preparation for Indycar racing. While still lacking elevation changes, the reconfigured circuit has been received well by drivers at the recent open test. The complete Mazda Road to Indy ladder (USF2000, Pro Mazda and Indy Lights) will support the Grand Prix, which features a standing start.

Mazda Road to Indy overview

USF2000 - Race 1 saw wet conditions at the start, but as the rain cleared some drivers switched to slick tyres. Will Owen was the first to pit and powered through the field to take his initial victory in the series. Adrian Starrantino also picked up his maiden USF2000 win from pole position in race 2, rounding out a good weekend for the rookie class. Championship leader Richard Enerson saw his points advantage reduced with middling finishes in both races. Points standings after rounds 5 and 6: Richard Enerson 145, Florian Latorre 124, Jake Eidson 117.

Pro Mazda - Reigning USF2000 champion Scott Hargrove notched up wins in action-packed races from the front row, closing in on points leader Spencer Pigot who found himself mired in mid-pack after poor starts. Hargrove's teammate at Cape Motorsports, Neil Alberico, moved up to 4th in points with a pair of podium finishes. Points standings after rounds 5 and 6: Spencer Pigot 157, Scott Hargrove 152, Kyle Kaiser 114.

Indy Lights - Matthew Brabham held off Luiz Razia in a wet-dry race for his debut win in the series. Razia emulated Brabham's feat in dry conditions by winning from pole position in the feature race, holding off Jack Harvey who shadowed him closely throughout the event. Early championship contenders Gabby Chaves and Zach Veach lost ground in both races. Points standings after rounds 5 and 6: Zach Veach 229, Luiz Razia 224, Gabby Chaves 215.

James Davison, a gradulate of Indy Lights and currently driving for Aston Martin in the USCC GT class, has signed a deal with KV Racing Technology for the Indianapolis 500. (http://www.indycar.com/News/2014/05/5-10-KV-Racing-enters-fourth-car-for-Davison)

The opening day of practice for the Indy 500 ended with Team Penske on top, although many teams were either shaking down their oval cars or testing race setups. Ernesto Viso substituted for James Hinchcliffe, who reported sinus pain at the last race and was not cleared to drive in practice. Hinchcliffe is set for further medical evaluation shortly. Caught up with the race last night, really enjoyed it, think it's a good track.

Think it'll be a good addition to the calendar and if anywhere they should have a double it should be Indy, next up the big one :D
