2014, Our hardware is outdated :P

You obviously haven't really observed this current generation in society.

True but thats for another day.

So many things have so many different meanings nowadays with so many people in how they see it. It's very hard to distinguish which is which since there is so much spin to protect their argument.

You sir need to go get drunk and cheer up :D

What big things are expected CPU wise in 2014? My 1055T is beginning to get a little long in the tooth and I feel like treating myself to something faster so I can push things up to ultra quality again!

Still got my 2700k oc, cant see myself upgrading the whole system in a while tbh, would have to be really worth it, though I am finally going to get myseld a ssd by the end of the week!

My hardware was outdated the day after i bought it in 2009 :') I refuse to upgrade right now as its still trundling along doing what i require. Have an i5 sandy laptop though so not too fussed

When in doubt just add the most powerful upgrade from last year bought from MM balance restored :)

most hardware is out dated before it hits the shelf anyway

Why would you care?

I've still got an i5 2500K from 2011, 3 years old next month, still runs everything brilliantly and have seen zero reason to upgrade. Breaking the pointless upgrade cycle for the sake of it was the best thing I did. Leaves you money to spend on better stuff than having more 3dmarks than a load of people you've never met :p
+1 to that here also.

My machine is pretty put identical to the one in your sig, but with a 770 & runs everything very well still.

I'll upgrade when I have to start putting the graphics settings down in a game reasonable well optimised.

Can't see stuff being totally outdated.

The CPU roadmap for 2014 is mostly incremental updates until the end of the year/early 2015.

GPU wise doesn't look like we will see the "full fat" Maxwell until similiar end of the year/early 2015 either with the first "high end" (think GTX680 all over again) Maxwell release early in the year but only around 40% (depending on final clockspeeds) faster than the GTX Titan at traditional rendering. Information on AMD's 20nm GPUs and beyond is less readily available but can't see anything too unexpected there.

Memory wise DDR4 is likely to make some difference for those into super high end systems but I can't see it having too much impact on general desktop use.

Sound hardware doesn't look like changing much other than the introduction of TrueSound.

Can't see anything other than incremental updates to things like SSDs and other storage mediums.

Monitor tech might finally see some more options for those wanting to combine higher refreshes with better image quality and "4k" will start to mature somewhat but otherwise won't change too much for the average desktop user.

most saoftware is deisgned for ageneration or two behind the current hardware too so it makes little difference lol

Haven't bothered upgrading in a long while. Still rocking a Q6600 with a memory and graphics upgrade along the way. It definitely pays to get a high end motherboard for longevity although they usually short-out 1-2 years later in my case. :p Until the current one blows they I'll most likely won't bother unless something else warrants it.

General Discussion section, majority of people just use these sections for a natter, and that sums it up. :p

Never see most of the posters in here post in the hardware section, where you are more than likely to see people with update rigs.
