2014 World Snooker Championship

Well done to Mark. :)

A few bullet points :

Ronnie :

* Played below his average standard

* He didn't have the run of the ball

* His positional play (and safety) let him down

* It was like someone or something had pulled the 'plug'

* I honestly don't think he was fated to win it this time

Mark :

* Again, I thought he played below his usual standard, though not as much as Ronnie did

* Had the run of the ball

* Struggled with his positional play

* Excellent safety

* He was fated to win this

In all honesty, probably the most boring final I've seen.

Great result for snooker.

Really ? I thought it was terrible. When such a boring, tedious, safety obsessed, frame choking player like Selby can win a world championship, I think it's a sad day for the sport from a spectators point of view. After all, without the spectators the sport would die. I've been watching snooker since the 70's, and without exception, the biggest draws that put bums on seats are the attacking players who make the game come alive with century breaks and the occasional 147. Selby is definitely not in this camp. Selby's style of play does win him matches, but not fans.

Stop sulking. I'm a fan of Ronnie too but the better player won today. Ronnie just didn't turn up focused.

Have to agree with Selby being boring to watch, he's known as the re-rack king to many as he barely goes a match without forcing some sort of stalemate that results in a re-rack. His style of play does remind me a bit of Ebdon's, slows the game down and things get scrappy. Graham Dott said something similar about Selby saying he constructs frames by getting the balls messy then grinds the opponent down and picks the reds off. Wasn't as evident in this match but a lot of his frames do go that way.

Was a good win for him regardless.
