2014 World Snooker Championship

Wasn't aware of that, used to be ranking points over two seasons didn't it?

It's all about the earnings now. Which is much better actually. It means that the top players can pick and choose their tournaments which in turn means that lower ranked players can play in lower tournaments and have a better chance of earning money because the top players are less likely to be playing. So everybody wins.

i think so but they've been talking about this over the last couple of weeks saying basing it on prize money is better for everyone. top players can pick and choose (play less) and lower ranked players get more chances to earn enough to make a living playing the game.

edit: far too slow, i'm watching telly as i type. :p

Really ? I thought it was terrible. When such a boring, tedious, safety obsessed, frame choking player like Selby can win a world championship, I think it's a sad day for the sport from a spectators point of view. After all, without the spectators the sport would die. I've been watching snooker since the 70's, and without exception, the biggest draws that put bums on seats are the attacking players who make the game come alive with century breaks and the occasional 147. Selby is definitely not in this camp. Selby's style of play does win him matches, but not fans.

Ever considered watching pool instead. Tony drago used to play fast and was boring to watch, maybe people just have an emotional attachment to Ronnie as he brings in controversy and his mental state another boring topic of discussion to the game.

No. Maybe people just have an emotional attachment to Selby as he brings tedium and mind numbing boredom into the game, another boring topic of discussion in the game.

See what I did there ? I took your crap and flipped it and threw it right back at you. Good huh ?

Well the clue is in the sports name really. Playing safe is part of the game and to discredit someones achievements because they don't play how you prefer just speaks volumes about you.

I saw what you did, you tried to act clever but it didnt work. The game is snooker what ever happened to power snooker ? I guess it failed.

Yep.

Don't understand people saying Selby is boring. Seems to me he just played safety better than anyone else. I think good safety play is better to watch than someone clearing up, never missing a ball personally....It was a proper contest.

There's a difference between good safety play and being painfully risk averse though. Selby is obviously an excellent tactician and safety player but he strikes me as the sort of bloke that would cancel his holiday after reading a bad review on Trip Advisor.

The standout moment for me was in the final frame when O'Sullivan potted the white so Selby had the ball in hand. There was a choice between a tough but far from impossible long pot or playing a safety behind the baulk colours. Even with a three frame advantage he played the safety. Kudos to him for sticking to his strategy but it's dull to watch.

Standout for me was when Ronnie missed a pink into the side pocket that even I could get. Think it knocked any confidence he had left.

Still, all credit to him, winning it 2 years in a row then reaching the final in the 3rd is a stellar achievement.

Gutted but tbh the better player won.

Selby's tactic was clearly to bore Ronnie to utter tears (along with myself) and fair play, he stuck to it and executed it perfectly. ;)
